After 28 years in storage (!!) I have just unpacked my old Beocenter 7002 (which I’d originally purchased in 1981 and used extensively for 11 years before it had to go into storage), and boxes and boxes of old cassette tapes, which I’d hoped to re-listen to in my retirement.

The Beocenter radio works, the phono works, and the CD input works (kit 8002248 which I had installed back in February 1991), BUT the tape deck doesn’t. It won’t play, forward or reverse wind – it just immediately stops (or in fact doesn’t start) as if the tape is jammed.

Any ideas or pointers as to how / if I might get the tape section working again would be VERY much appreciated.

The belts will need to be replaced, as will the rubber parts on the idler wheels in the tapedrive.
It's all normal after all those years.

I can supply the correct parts - and also a new belt for the turntable section.
PM or email me.

That CD input kit sounds interesting, I didn't know such existed! Would you mind sharing some pictures of it, and maybe if you have (or anyone else has) any information about it?

Good luck with your restoration, I'm currently working on a Beocenter 5000 from the same age (and got the rubber parts to it from Martin btw)

The kit consisted of an additional internal PCB, leading to an external DIN plug on a 2 inch long signal wire which exits at the rear of the set. (Sorry, not sure how to add a photo to the post?). The external CD drive is then connected through the DIN. I had the kit installed at a local electronics shop (affiliated some way with B&O as I recall) in Stavanger, Norway.

At the time, the kit was for the 7000, 7002, 5000 Type 180X systems.

The complete operating instructions are: “CD playback is achieved by pressing PHONO, without a record placed on the record player. In case a record is placed on the record player the PHONO button works as previously, except when you turn the record or place a new record after playback on one record side, in this case the lead-in of the tonearm and playback will take place automatically and immediately”.

So in short, it allows a CD player to be permanently and discretely connected to the rear of the Beocenter and accessed as a source using the PHONO button when there is no record on the platter. It works well.

Martin,

I replied to your post by e-mail last week. Did you receive the e-mail, and can you help please? If you didn’t receive the e-mail, could you advise how best to contact you?

Many thanks,

Steve
