Hello ,
I was wondering which the "right" position of the input level switch would be to connect my Pentas III to the speakers output of my Beomaster 7000 via the speakerlink 4 pins cables referring to the table in the Penta's user manual.
I'm asking that for two reasons:
  1. The input switch table in the guide is in terms of power, it does not explicitely indicate Beomaster models (It just indicates position III for all BM powerlinks); 7000 is rated at 110w, so with speakerlinks it should be position I but I'm not confident enough in my conclusion.
  2. I did connect Pentas and BM7000 with speakerlinks and played a bit with the input switch on both the speakers ... well, when I tried position III (= no filter reduction) the speakers "came alive" and started sounding unbelievable, really I love Pentas but I couldn't imagine they could sound like that: I find an incredible differences with my usual powerlink connection in position III (as on the user manual).
BTW if I'm right in no 1, position III wouldn't be recommended for 7000 speakerlinks, as the signal from BM7000 would be too high and could even possibly damage the Beolab 200 .... besides, distortion at high volumes (I haven't gone above 40 up to now) should be heard.
Thanks for comments/suggestions/sharing experiences.

But I would rather buy powerlink cables.

Thanks Leosgonewild.

I know I can use speakerlink.

My doubt is more specifically about the switch on the Pentas (Input level: I, II, III ?)...

Thanks Peter.

I've seen the table on my user manual.

What I firstly need to know (as you can see on n° 1 in my original post) is: according to that table, which is the right position of the switch for a Beomaster 7000 connected with Speakerlinks ?

The output is closer to 55W than 110w, but either way the correct setting should be the low gain setting, or the single line/bar.

Thanks DMacri !

Now, I've been using the BM 7000 connected via speakerlink to the Pentas with the input level switch on III (=no attenuation) for a couple of days , and I think the sound is terrific like never before.

My final questions are:

- Did anyone experience this setting? (position III with BM7000/6500 and speakerlink)

- Could this setting damage the Penta's Beolabs200 ?

The idea (doubt...) behind this last question is originated from the not-excessive power of the beomaster 7000, arguing that this position COULD infact be ideal to get full potential from the Beolabs, more than the recommended powerlink/speakerlink in position I (which could possibly be a sort of "too safe setting" for the peakers...).

Hi Mauro,

Yes, I also prefer the sound of my Pentas in the III switch position (without attenuation), this seems to be a better sound regardless on which input socket is used (ie. Powerlink, Speakerlink or Line).  This won't cause any damage.

Kind regards, Steve.

Steve.

If your amp doesn’t get hot, if you can’t hear distortions when listening the music - even loud, everything is fine and you won’t destroy the system.
