BEO 5 remote isn't charging | How to charge battery externally?

After all these years of just laying around and not being used, I dusted my BEO 5 remote off and tried charging it by putting it on the mains charger. Sadly though, nothing happened. So I read this thread online

in which they recommend me unplugging the battery and waiting for a few seconds after plugging it back again. So, I did this, but still nothing happened after letting it on the charger for more than a day. The latest post in this thread suggested to charge the battery externally with two AA batteries, but if I look up the battery specs from the BEO 5 remote, it says: Battery Capacity is 1,350 mAh, 2.5V. My AA batteries are 1.5V each, so my first question is

1. Does it do no harm to the battery if I charge it with two AA batteries?
2. Furthermore, the battery connector has three pins, so how should I connect my two AA batteries to the BEO 5 remote?
