Hi BeoWorld,
I recently purchased a Beogram 1900 via Catawiki (MMC 10E) and I have been having some issues with the sound. When I first got it I only heard music coming from one (right) side and I realised the cartridge was not connected properly into the arm. I gently removed the cartridge form the arm, and reattached it. This seemed to do the trick, and to my delight, I now got sound from both sides.
In the meantime I had been having issues with the hood which would not stay open. To fix this I sent the beogram back to the seller, who would fix this. He sent it back to me, which seemed to do the trick for a while, as the hood now stayed open, but now this fix had let me down once again and the hood does not stay open.
Now I unfortunately have a new issue where, once again, the sound only comes from the right speaker, even though the cartridge is connected properly. I am afraid that by sending the beorgram by mail this might have something to do with it. Mainly also because the belt was loose when I received the beorgram the second time around. I gentle fitted the felt, though this did not sit well with me. Using the following troubleshooting link https://sound-smith.com/bo-troubleshooting-and-repair I followed the steps to determine the cause of the issue, and at step 3 the channel problem changed sides, so I have to conclude either the cartridge or the turntable is at fault.
Can anyone confirm that a faulty cartridge could be responsible for the sound only going to one speaker, or might there be something else that I can try to narrow down the issue? If it is indeed the cartridge, which cartridges would work with the Beogram 1900 and where would be the best place to look?
I am looking online for replacement cartridges but I was really hoping that it did not have to come tot this as the turntable was marketed as having a working MMC 10E cartridge. Any and all responses would be much appreciated.
Many thanks!
RobbertPS I am also using a pre-amp by Sounds Heavenly https://soundsheavenly.com/beogram-record-players/12-2196-pre-amp-bundle-for-bo-beogram-and-all-turntables.html#/36-output-5_pin_din_aux/41-power_supply-uk
The cartridge could be the reason, but it's more likely that a lead has broken off inside the DIN plug atthe end of the signal cable to the amplifier.
Martin
Hi Martin, thank you for your swift response. That sounds like quite a tricky, and issue-prone, job to rectify, would you agree or is there still hope? Do you think it would be worth the time and effort to repair?
Just open the plug and check inside. No problem at all.
HI Martin, thank you for your response. I had someone take a look at it, and apparently it was the cartridge. Next to that the belt was also quite loose, and the hinges of the dust cover were not installed correctly by the man I bought it from via CataWiki. All-in-all not a great start to my Beogram experience.
But on the other hand - you now already know more about your Beogram than most other owners.
