Hello all

I am looking for a MINI windows PC to put on the back of my new to be delivered Eclipse 65.

I want a small mini windows PC that I can store behind the TV or a HDMI wireless device that I could stream films from my laptop to the TV.

Has anyone got any recommendations for a decent one.

Option 1

Wireless HDMI device that allows streaming from laptop, UHD signal, Dolby etc

Option 2

MINI PC for the back of the TV that I cannot to the wireless, and operate via a wireless keyboard and mouse

Option 3

Another solution that I may be missing.

Any recommendations welcome.

Thank you

Sean

Maybe it’s an idea to make a docking station for you laptop and pull an hdmi canle to there? I have an Intel Nuc attached but it’s for local files, not streaming.

I'm using an Odroid N2 with coreelec installed. This basically is a mini pc with a 'linux' operating system that integrates the latest kodi build. It's perfect for playing local content, very customizable. It does all uncompressed 4K formats and hd audio and can be operated through hdmi-CEC. It's quite cheap too.  I was using an older macbook before which only purpose was playing local content. After finally ditching my old 720p TV, it seemed the mac could not handle uncompressed FullHD video smoothly (2008 hardware) so I needed to upgrade. Was first looking at a secondhand mac mini, but that could also not handle decent 4K content and was way more expensive than the €100 of the odroid (or even less, can't remember).

It depends on what you're planning to do with it. I'm not a big fan of streaming, playing content on my laptop and mirroring its screen does not deliver a smooth enough experience. I hate to use separate remotes too, and controlling play/pause on the laptop while watching series is really not ideal.

I guess netflix and other streaming services are built into the LG you're buying, so you're mainly looking to playback local content?

An Amazon Fire TV Stick with Kodi can be used to access network drives.

We use this solution to watch centrally stored movies.

Even a wireless keyboard including mouse pad works with it (if you go for the fire hd box, not the stick).

Forgot to mention: With a FLIRC USB adaptor it can be controlled via Beovision PUC system (for example Apple TV PUC) as the FLIRC adapter can be programmed for various commands with a computer.

Thanks for the advice I will read about all of them.

I like the idea of PUC control that seems great also.

I'm using a FireTV (the flat square one) with KODI loaded and it works brilliantly.  I have a FLIRC dongle and am controlling it with my Beo 4. I have a Beosystem 3 and it it's too much hassle to get the PUC table updated so I chose a Humax PUC from the list and taught the FLIRC that so it now works flawlessly.

I can play files stored on my PC and on my NAS drive and if friends bring over films on a USB thumb drive I can play those too. If you plug in a USB hub you should be able to use the FLIRC and a Wireless keyboard. I actually use the FireTV remote on my tablet for typing searches or Internet surfing.

Raspberry Pi with Kodi media center

Control it via HDMI cable (CEC)

No PUC required.

Visit the osmc webpage for more info.

Works brilliant. Very low power consumption. Open source. Very easy to install.
