Hi - my first time on this forum and I have 2 questions for any of you experts out there! Sorry if this is a recent subject, but I couldn't see a previous strand.

I've just had to upgrade my Amplifier (my Beomaster 2000 receiver section finally given up the ghost) and having difficulty getting rid of some hum!

The deck is a Beogram 4000 with MMC20CL (fantastic combination!! which still works perfectly after 33 years) and trying to connect through a Pro-Ject Phono Box S to the line in of a goodly amp. Tried all the various Gain, Impedance, Load Capacity settings and tried earthing the Pro-Ject S.

What would folks recommend for the Phono-Box S settings? I think the MMC20CL might work best with low output MMC settings - Gain 60dB, Load capacity 100pF, Load Impedance 10 Ohms but with pronounced hum I can't really tell much!

Of course the 4000 has just a live and neutral mains supply lead so perhaps no earth loop there? Not removed the DIN plug on the signal cable yet since that bit still works fine on the 2000, so it goes via a connector to Phonos. When the record deck muting turns off just after it touches the disc, up comes the hum!!

Can anyone suggest a way forward please??

Do your DIN to RCA plugs converter have a ground wire, if not, solder a wire to the DIN plug "housing" and connect to ground on your Phono box, if still humming, connect a ground wire from Phono box to Amp

Collecting Vintage B&O is not a hobby, its a lifestyle.
