Does anyone use the connection hub with an LG oled?

I am having some issues setting up the universal remote.

Are you using the LG remote, or a Universal remote, if so which one?

I am using the LG magic remote.

I tried setting it up as a universal with Samsung soundbar yesterday, no luck.

It seems that the magic remote function needs to be connected to a hdmi-input. How will I be able to control volume when using Netflix?

I am just not a 100%

But the Magic remote do not have IR

The connection Hub needs IR

So you need another solution.

I've been using this exact setup for over a year now. It doesn't work with the magic remote due to the reasons mentioned above. I initially set it up with the volume commands from my Sony Blu-Ray remote, but ultimately looked into a universal remote solution which can control LG TV, Blu-Ray, Connection Hub, Sky Q & Apple TV.... Cuts down on the remotes somewhat!

OK.

The headphone output has so much noise that I can’t connect the BL7.2 directly either Sad

Nor am I 100% certain, but believe the Magic Remote *can* do IR.  That's how I configured an LG OLED TV to work with a Sonos PlayBase. (You click the home button on your MagicRemote and scroll along the bottom (where Netflix, etc is) until you get to "device connector", then select "soundbar" and pick the Phillips brand, and select remote type 4.)  The tricky part is that the Sonos device has a mode where *it* learns the IR commands (for a Philips type-4, in its case).  I don't have a connection hub to test, to know if it can learn this properly.  But someone here did this before:

Yes that was me, the LG "magic remote" does defiantly output IR if you fake a receiver in TV menus as stated. The TV control stays BT but it has a sort of basic universal control for certain devices, like receivers. The S8 hub doesn't care so long as it learns some sort of IR commands and you have means to blast that. It does work.

However - the LG remote only outputs IR commands when the Tele is switched on. For my usage that is an issue as I still wanted volume control even with the tele switched off such as Airplay.

In the end I bought a Harmony elite which controls the LG, S8 and AppleTV. And yes even their latest LG OLED still comprehends LG IR commands. Not a plug to Logitech but this has to be the best universal remote I've seen. Works great to set up macro commands, power on order, input selection and so on.

OT, David, but I actually wondered (and never had the time to test): Is Emil *technically* correct, i.e. is the remote issuing *only* RF commands like always, and no IR mode exists in the remote -- but rather the LG TV receives the RF commands for volume-up/down/etc. and *it* has a blaster inside to send out whatever you have programmed it to do?!?

In other words, are the Sonos & LG help forums playing fast and loose with the facts, because it's easier for people to believe and understand that the remote starts sending IR, than to grok the concept of redirection and translation?  Are all the smarts actually inside the TV?  This would explain why the Magic Remote "stops working" to control the S8 when the TV is powered off...  Or did the LG engineers go through extra trouble to prevent the remote from sending volume up and down when it senses that it isn't running the TV at the moment, so you don't get surprise volume blasts when you power up again?

So Leo, if you do this, inquiring minds want to know: When you get yours working, can you either try the camera-IR-visible trick, or throw a black plastic bag over the remote (or the TV) and see what happens to responses by the S8?  In one sense it truly would be magic if it worked by TV translation and blaster, because the Magic Remote could control the S8 (assuming the TV is on) even from the other room, when it isn't pointed at the S8!

I already checked that by the iPhone camera (can see IR somewhat) and yes the remote itself has the IR blaster, lower front section. Actually even with the TV off, the remote still sends some sort commands to button pushes, but they're not the same as when the TV is on sadly.

As far as I could tell the TV doesn't have an IR transmitter that I could find. The TV IR receiver & RF is located on the front thing where the standby LED is.

So position your IR blaster like Harmony Hub somewhat to the 'face' of the TV.

I finally got this to work with my setup.

I set the LG magic remote put to work with a Denon soundbar. The S8 accept the IR command from the remote now.

So now I have my "Beovision X" working with only one remote :)

Great success!

Well done - how is your setup at present?

Do you still have the Penta’s as fronts, or?

MM

There is a tv - and there is a BV

Sure, press the home button and go to the right and click “Device manager”

Choose to add sound bar, make sure you choose optical (not hdmi arc)

Then chose Denon and done.

Now you can set up the S8 as normal Big Smile

I have the wireless Pentas for music, and the Beovision X for picture and sound.

Feels nice to use own names for my stuff

I’ve tried this approach with a 2020 lg cx attached to an S8 connection hub with beolab 7.2.

the s8 can easily learn another remote to control the volume but whether I add an LG or Denon sound bar the LG Magic Remote can never be used in training the S8.

so I can use the speaker with S8 and two remotes ... just can’t get down to just the lg magic remote that can be with the tv.
