Hi guys

I just recently bought a 1TB BS5/BM5 and so far I have successfully upgraded it with SSD.

Since I am using 2TB WD Blue SSD, my initial intention was to expand available storage to 2TB, but I only managed to use it up to original 1TB. When I do re-partitioning of DATA partition with MiniTool Partition Wizard, BM5 boots up normally, but when I select Mode->System on main navigation screen, system crashes instantly. For the same reason I cannot enter the Service Menu to reboot it from Service Tool USB and do the Recovery... :-/

I would highly appreciate if someone who managed to use 2TB disc in BM5 can share the partitioning procedure steps.

Can I do it on another PC, or it's better do be done on BM5 itself?

Which disk partitioning tool to use?

Are there some partitioning parameters to be selected?

I am using BV7-40 as a monitor, have Service Tool USB and keyboard/mouse combo.I haven't transferred any music yet, so doing everything from scratch.

All suggestions are welcome

Thank you

Damir

Hi,

I had the same issue in the past with a Crucial MX300 2TB SSD (based on the same chipset as the WD Blue).
With Minitool Partition Wizard I was able to make a partition of ~1.2TB, but this was the maximum that I was ever able to achieve.

In the end, the most stable solution was:
1) Use the USB Service Tool which creates a 1TB Data partition
2) Reboot the BeoMaster 5 and make the necessary update(s)
3) Enter the BM5 Windows XP Service Mode and delete the 'BM-System' partition and the 'Data' partition with the built-in Disk Management tool of Windows XP (don't use any 3rd party partition tools).
4) From the 'Unallocated' space, recreate the 'Data' NTFS partition (partition size = all space minus 2024 MB for the 'BM-System' partition). Again, use the built-in Disk Management tool of Windows XP to do this.
5) Recreate the 'BM-System' NTFS partition (partition size = remaining 2024 MB) with the Disk Management tool.
6) Use Norton Ghost to clone the 'Data' and 'BM-System' partitions back from the original USB Service Tool to your SSD. Keep the existing (newly created) partitions when cloning.

The system runs stable now for the last 4 years (even after a couple of power failures). The only restriction is that you can't use the System information menu, it crashes instantly like you mentioned. For the rest, everything works like a charm.

There's a solution to enter the Service Menu after a system crash. The BeoMaster 5 remembers your last selected menu. So, when entering the System Menu it automatically goes to the System Information and crashes instantly. The solution is to move the pointer just after selecting the System Menu. Timing is very important when moving the pointer (not too fast, not too slow), maybe you'll have to try a couple of times. Once succeeded, you can select the other options in the System Menu (and enter the Service Menu).

Rebooting the system from the Service Menu unfortunately doesn't solve the crashing problem.

I hope this helps you a little bit further.

Hi Kiwi

Thank you so much for putting this together.

So it seems that crashing is unavoidable, and that's unacceptable to me.

I would like to try some successful procedure done with 2TB spinner HDD. If  that's doable, I would buy a 2TB HDD and make it work, then clone it to SSD.

If that doesn't solve the crashing issue, I will stick to 1TB WD Blue, abandon local storage idea and focus on using the NAS as a content source.

However, thank you once again for your effort

Cheers

Damir
