I bought one of the first Beosound 1 a few years ago. Was underwhelmed and gave it back to the dealer. Love my Beosound 2. I now have two of these.
I recently had the chance to get a discounted 2nd generation Beosound 1 with Google Assistant. Love it.
Not only does it sound far better, more rounded, than the original purchase, but love Google Assistant, particularly in the bedroom.
It's flawless. Ask it to set an alarm before bed. Want a lie-in? Then simply speak to it to turn it off on a morning, talk quietly to get the radio streaming, play a Spotify track on demand and so much more. So good. Never seems to misunderstand me either.
B&O, hats off to you, you've nailed this.
"You think we can slap some oak on this thing?"
Livingroom: BL3, BL11, BV11-46 Kitchen: Beosound 1 GVA, Beocom 2 Bathroom: M3 Homeoffice: M3, Beocom 2 Library: Beosound Emerge, Beocom 6000 Bedroom: M5, Essence remote Travel: Beoplay E8 2.0, Beoplay EQ, Beoplay Earset
Mine plays almost a year 24/7.
Works flawless. I have the loadingdock also to take the BS1 outside during sunny days.
I only had to shut off the microphone under pressure of the rest of the family. It's remarkable that after talking to a relative next to the BS1, I got adverts on FB about the things we discussed..
Hiort:Agree. Also swapped my first gen BS1 for the GVA version. Sound is much better.

It is. Genuinely surprised. Not as much definition as a Beosound 2, but much improved. I just love the Google Assistant integration and how flawless this is.
I can just chat when doing something in the room and it's never asked me to repeat what I said.
Hi! Sorry but may I ask where you got that lamp from? Been looking for something like that!
Is the BeoSound 1 Gen 2 really that much better? When I first got my BeoSound 1 my dealer was adamant that they both (Gen 1 & Gen 2) sounded the same, and at that time I trusted them and picked up the Gen 1 purely to avoid GVA (personally I have no need for it). What they didn’t tell me though was that it was possible to buy the Gen 2 model without GVA, grrr. I originally thought that only the Gen 1 model came without GVA.
I did eventually get the BeoSound 2 Gen 2 without GVA though for another room, but I have noticed that my BeoSound 1 is quite selective in what music it can reproduce well so I just try to limit what I listen on it so that it doesn’t disappoint me too much.
My BeoSound 1 is my bedside speaker thought so it does what I need it to, just that I can’t help but think that it could definitely be better.

It's this from Menu in Denmark: https://menuspace.com/en/b2b-catalogue/lighting/table-lamps/reverse-table-lamp-travertine-bronzed-brass/
That's a concrete base on the bottom of the lamp.
Yes, the 2nd generation GVA version is a big step up from my original Beosound 1. Beosound 2 is a different beast though.
The BS1 is my most used speaker currently because it is so portable. I did get the optional dock and it's totally worth it.
B&O in my life 😊:
I have the 2nd edition (GVA), but to be honest, the firmware upgrades have made the Gen 1 almost equal in terms of audio performance based on my comparison. I recall the initial BS1 I heard 2-3 years ago had something strange with the bass and past around 60% the audio started distorting quite a bit. The audio issues seem to have been fixed with updates. JMHO

I didn't know this existed, so thanks for the tip. Just ordered one!
I don't know whether there are 2 different versions, but my only problem with mine is, is that when you want deactivate the microphone, you first need to remove loadingdock part, which is placed at the bottom of the BS1. Otherwise you can't reach the switch.
That is still the case. I am assuming B&O felt that buyers would always turn it on or off. In my case I don't use the GVA at all, but when I bought mine there wasn't an option to get the Gen 2 without GVA.
Aussie Michael: If the voice version was around when i bought mine it would have been appreciated, but it’s still going strong.

I'm amazed how quick and flawless it is. I can walk in to the room and casually say 'hey Google, can you...' and it always hears me. I often just walk in to a room and ask for a specific track or a radio channel.
Moxxey, which Beosound 1 color did you buy? It looks very good.

Anthracite.
I have the brushed steel BS2 and that looks amazing. Love the finish. Wish they did that finish on the BS1!
Thanks!
