Is there any substitute for MCP for a Beogram 5500? Can I use 5000 instead from what I readit does not appear to be compatible. Its a real bummer I would love to use my 5500 that I found.

For all functions, you'd need an MCP 5500 or MCP 6500. The MCP 5000 is not compatible. For many, but not all functions, you can use a Beolink 1000, or Beo 4 remote.

Beogram or Beomaster?

The Beogram has no support for remote control on its own. It will have to go through a Beomaster.
If you have a Beomaster 5500, you can use a Beolink 1000 remote for the daily operations (including control of the Beogram 5500), and you will need a Master Control Panel 5500 or 6500 (they are identical apart from the model number and finish) for all programming etc. functions.
