Beolab 17 in white

Very nice. Would go well with the White BL19.

Infact i was looking at these last night as i didn't realise that they made them in white and today i saw your post :-))d

Just saw them in the window, do not like them because they are painted white.

I like my Black ones as they have the Alu finish.

 

Oak, to match the moment would be cool....

I like White. Always have. These 17's look lovely.

It should have been stained in white in the mass of aluminium instead of painting.

The BeoLab 17 white would have an amazing premium finish like the black version.

It is disappointing from a leader in the aluminium, Where is the excellence from the past ?

I agree with you BB68. Your pic of the 4000 compared to the 17 just shows how extraordinary well made this speaker was nearly 20 years ago !

But still... the BL4000 was not available in white too. B&O has been trying for 20 years now to get a perfectly white anodised speaker. No luck yet it seems.

Same profile but the craftsmanship from the BeoLab 4000 was much better.

Similar, not same, profile, but I agree the craftsmanship is not as good. Nor the design. I am overall not as impressed with the new stuff as I was with the old with a few exceptions.

Good:

Beolab 19

Bad or worse than before:

Beolab 17 (BL4000 much better)

Beolab 20 (I like the BL9 better, 20 is too, well, a tad garish and too much chrome)

Avant (BV11 better and more classic, though the Avant isn't too bad)

Things that are a wash:

BL18. I like the BL8000 better but the lamelas are intriguing and totally different, so it's a wash as the 18 is cool as well.

Why do people seem to think the BL4000 are better than the 17's? Build quality or sound?

Not having compared them side by side mind you but I seem to recall the 17s had deeper, fuller bass, and were at least a wash in the mids/highs. Stylistically IMO no comparison though, I'd prefer, say, a pair of BL4000s and a BL11 for the aesthetics, and after all, with B&O that counts for something.

The 4000’s were kinda anemic compared to the 8000’s, the 17’s beat the 8000’s as alround speakers in terms of sound. The 4000’s are lovely looking speakers, but by no means powerhouses interms of performance. The 17’s pack a massive punch.

Looks are personal, but i’ve lived around all of those and the 17’s seem to be build like tanks. Then again, they might not have the classic david lynch kinda pretty, but I love mine. Non of them are “bad” in any way imho.
