Beogram 5500 issue with remote control

Hi Cal303,

Put the whole system into stand-by first, by pressing the button with the red dot on the BeoLink 1000.

Then press the SOUND > 1 > STORE key sequence you tried before. Don’t press them simultaneously. The BeoMaster should confirm by blinking its red light.

Hi Lawrence, 

The system is in standby mode with just a red light, unfortunately the key sequence hasn't done anything. The red light just stays static, without blinking, which I assume means it hasn't detected any inputs? 

Do you have any other suggestions? :)

Hi Callum,

If you’ve confirmed that your BeoLink 1000 is working correctly (point a phone camera at the business end, press a remote button and look for flashes on the phone screen), then the cause may be dirt on the front of the BM5500, obscuring the IR transceivers, or failure of the capacitors in the IR transceiver board of the BM5500. Way beyond my skill level to advise on that! But plenty others on here can.

Just double checked and the remote is definitely working; I can see the flashes when pressing all of the buttons. 

Wiped the machine and tried again but sadly this hasn't helped either.... 

Looks like this may be an electrical issue then? Seems a bit odd since everything else is fine! 

Hopefully someone else may be able to advise. Thanks for the help thus far! 

Bad IR-receiver component.
Bad alignment of the IR circuit.
Bad CPU.

I have seen all of the above.

Put a scope to the IR input on the processor and watch what happens, when you send commands from the remote.
You should see well defined bursts of pulses.

Hi Martin, 

I'm afraid I don't really have any experience with electronics. Is it an easy process to check this? Also, is it common for these components to fail in isolation? Seemed a bit odd to me that everything else appears to function as normal.
