Hi all,

When we upgraded from a BV11 to the Eclipse at the start of the year we decided to drop our Sky subscription and move over to using the Apple TV (integrated neatly into the back), along with NowTV and using Freeview via the satellite dish. This has been working well but having dropped Sky we’ve started to miss the ability to pause live TV, etc.

Has anyone used a USB HDD integrated into the back of the Eclipse for pausing/recording live TV that they can recommend? Checking the online (LG) guide on the B&O website doesn’t give much info other than it should be an HDD with at least 80Gb of storage. We’re aiming to have one small enough to fit into the TV connection panel so it’s hidden away...

Any experience or suggestions would be appreciated,

Many thanks,

Matt

We have made the same upgrade as you, and after much searching on the internet I have found this ssd / usb disk:

It fits into the usb 3.0 slot next to the PCMCIA card slot, and it is small enough to fit under the cover plate, if you use the supplied cable.

We are receiving tv from a danish cable tv provider (youSee), and pausing live tv and recording works perfectly via the built-in dual tuner in the Eclipse Big Smile.

Please observe that you are not able to pause or record input from the HDMI connections. It only works with the tuner.

Best regards - Dyssegaard

Hi Dyssegaard,

Thank you so much for the reply, that’s just what I was looking for. I’ve ordered one tonight, and will post an update once I have it installed.
Out of curiosity, did you have to format the drive before use?

Many thanks,

Matt

Hi Matt,

You’re welcome Big Smile, and yes - I did format the drive before mounting it in the Eclipse.

I have a Mac, so I could only format as fat32. If you have a windows computer, you can also use ntfs. However, fat32 works fine. I have a feeling, that the tv itself reformats the drive from fat32 to ntfs, because I have several recordings larger than the 4GB limitation of fat32.

Best regards - Dyssegaard

Hi Dyssegaard,

Appreciate the quick reply! The drive is arriving this evening, so will format it to NTFS and give it a go.

Many thanks,

Matt

Does not exfat work? Big file compatibility and read-write on both Mac and pc. Ntfs is primarily for Windows only use.

Beolab 50, Beolab 8000 x 2, Beolab 4000 x 2,
BeoSound Core, BeoSound 9000, BeoSound Century,
BeoLit 15, BeoPlay A1, BeoPlay P2, BeoPlay H9 3rd Gen, BeoPlay H6, EarSet 3i,
BeoVision Eclipse Gen 2 55", BeoPlay V1-40,
BeoCom 6000 and so much else :)

Exfat does not work on Eclipse. It requires ntfs or fat32.

Just to follow up with this thread, after formatting the drive to NTFS and connecting it to the USB 3.0 port on the TV it works a treat!

Dyssegaard - Thanks once again for information, it’s really appreciated.
