Hi people; am returning to work on beocord 8000 after many months of working on other projects; I seem to remember that Play, FF and REW all worked last time. After retreating tires w rubber renew (anew) all works fine except that PLAY engages and disengages quickly w little forward movement. I tested the mechanics without power and play mechanism seemed to work good; however, when using the electronic controls, it does not want to stay engaged - I am guessing that if FF and REW work and auto-stop, then the Hall sensor works? Any ideas would be really helpful. I have trawled the internet for info, but not much available. I am tempted to go back and strip down the whole mechanism/i.e start over to rule out any mechanical issues. If it is electrical I am a bit stumped! Very interesting forum, w some very lucid observations.Best to all. This is my first forum question ever! GB
Are the two tape reels rotating during the brief moment it plays? Is the capstan rotating at all times when out of standby?Right reel felt brake on the correct side (inside) of the reel table flange? Is something blocking the pressure roller from reaching the capstan or preventing the tapehead engaging when you press play?
Reflow solder joints where the large connector from the tapedrive goes to the underlying PCB.
Instead of repeating treatments with "rubber renewer", why not replace the rubber with new?Correct parts here:https://www.beoparts-shop.com/product-category/beocord/beocord-8000/

Hi there,
try a different tape first. I have had that problem too. The later Beocords like the 8000 are more sensitive to hard to turn cassettes. Tried my old Beocord 5000 thereafter and it did play the exact same cassette without a problem.
Greetings,
Kai
Thank you Martin for very quick reply; I will have to reinstall transport mechanism and check these things.
I know the capstan keeps running when powered up; both reels move in play but the movement is small/transient.
I like the ideas you put forward and will check out asap.
Not as much time as I'd like to work efficiently
Thanks a mil. for the expert advice and taking the time to reply.
I will post an update when I can; will also try different tapes as suggested by Kai.
I am not as familiar as i could be with all the functions of this deck.
Most decks I've played with are basic from 70s/early 80s

I know the capstan keeps running on standby not sure about reel movement in play as it's so transient. - will check asap - I like the ideas you put forward and will check out asap.
Greetings Kai and thank you for your suggestion. I am convinced it is a simple and probably obvious problem, and if it is not, I am in trouble. Somehow i get nervous with electromechanical devices as the number of logic controls increases with the risk of fried chips. Of course I love french fries/chips! GB
Update: checked solder joints under magnification and they seem good - but will reflow anyway.
Took mechanism apart last night and mechanical parts all in correct positions (followed Beolover's guide)
REW/FF work well and autostop works
Play still stops abruptly after slight forward motion; when I use my fingers to engage the play mechanism (bypassing the switches) the tape plays forward as normal with good function of both spools?
Will re-flow solder joints next
