Hi All,
Just wondering if anyone has any experience refurbishing/servicing the MCP 5500 (possibly even 5000 & 6500 also)
I have a functionally working MCP 5500 but it has a few problems.
Firstly the main buttons are a bit hit and miss. Some stand proud and have that reassuring tactile feel from the microswitches underneath when pressed. Others appear to be either uneven (one side higher than the other) or sunk/flush with the control panel surface making it difficult to press and I think in some cases get stuck in this position. This seems to affect the buttons in the middle section more. Dismantling the MCP, I can see the buttons could do with a wipe down to remove some of the grime thats preventing the smooth action of the buttons but otherwise everything is in good condition. Im thinking maybe over the years the PCB board containing the switches has slightly (nothing obvious) bent with use over the years?! Or, perhaps the switches are worn and need replacing. The switch PCB is covered by a piece of plastic film which appears to be glued to the board so havent been able to investigate this yet.
Any advice on how to refurb this back to a better state would be appreciated.
Secondly, while I have everything in pieces I was going check the power supply and volume sensor s per the service manual. Any recommendations for things to check / replace while I'm in there?
Finally I have the dreaded hinge issue on one side. Ill be honest, ive not looked at this at all just yet but I have read in the past someone was attempting to create a 3d printed fix, just wondered if this ever got off the ground?
Cheers
G
