Beogram cd4500 - need to open and remove lid - need advice

I bought a cd4500 off ebay - cosmetically great but it came with a fault where the disc doesn't turn at all (the lid opens and closes fine).  So after some reading I learned that the C2103 cap is a common issue so I plan to try that first.  I got a hold of the service manual to learn how to open up the unit.  It says to open the lid and then pull up vertically to detach it but looking at the arms when the lid is up I'm afraid to put pressure on it to pull hard up.  Is that truly the way to remove the lid?  Is there any trick or better yet video on opening up these units?  I found youtube vidoes on the cdx and other cd unit but not the type with the flip up lid (all where the slid out versions).

When I get it opened up, is there anything else I should look at (other than c2103) which could be the cause of the cd not turning?

You need to lift out the top of the hinges like this - just enough to allow for lifting up the lid.
