Hi,

We own a Beocenter 4000, Beogram 3000, and a Beogram CDX from new.

Now we've come to set them up after storing them for 10 years and the CDX has a problem.  The system will open and close however the CD doesn't spin and a question mark will flash on the display.  I suspect from other forum posts here it's to do with the soldering.

Are there any recommendations of where to get it looked at?  We're located in the NW of England if that matters.

Alternatively are there any guides I'm a bit reluctant with little experience with soldering.

Hi,

I was lucky enough to pick up a non-working CDX years ago for 20 GBP. I took it home, tried playing a CD and got the same question mark you did.

I noticed there was a thick layer of dust on the inner top surface of the player. I took a cotton bud and GENTLY wiped the lens of the laser. It has worked reliably ever since.

You may want to inspect and try gently cleaning it first. The other soldering issues are pretty common and well documented, however, so don’t be too upset if more technical attention is required.

We gave the lens a cleaning and got an improvement in that the CD would now start to spin but then stop with the ? flashing on the display.

We tried moving the laser with a cotton bud and the CD X began working the second time we moved it this time to the outside track.

Not sure whether this was down to the CD X not knowing where the laser was or if the act on moving it loosened up the mechanism, but now it's working fine thank you.
