I wonder if any of you can help me.

I recently realized that my set up, consisting of a pair of beolabs 3 connected to a beolab 11 linked to a Quad CDP 99, is not working properly.  What happens is that the sound, although coming from all three speakers, is coming out as if the sound of one channel is coming out of the whole system.  In other words, one channel is working and the other is dead, but the one that is working is coming out of all three speakers.

In addition to the equipment mentioned above, I have a Wadia 176 itransport (to link an IPOD)  linked to one of the digital inputs of the CDP 99, which in this case is working as a DAC and preamp.

The problem is the same when I listen to CDs and the IPOD, so I believe I have narrowed it to the cables linking the CDP to the beolab 11, or the setup of the beolab 11, or the cables running from the beolab 11 to the 3s.

Does anyone have any idea as to what is causing the problem?  And how to fix it?

Thanks in advance for any advice you can give me.

Assuming you're using PowerLink Cables between BLb11 and BLb3s - did you set the left BLb 3 to "L" and the right one to "R" ?

Hi afcintra,

Yes, I can help!  The Twin RCA to single 8pin DIN cable from the Quad CDP to the Input socket of the Beolab 11 is a special configuration, so that it can carry the twin ground links and stereo audio signals to the Beolab 11.  We built these cables specifically for this pupose, as they are wired differently to all other B&O cables.  Hence, if you are using a cable that was bought for a different application, then this will not pass the correct signal and ground connections to the Beolab 11.

Please set the Beolab 11 to "Line" mode using the small switches near the socket panel.  Vienna is correct that you will then connect the two Beolab 3 speakers to the two Output sockets of the Beolab 11 using Powerlink mk.3 cables.  Please set the two Beolab 3 speakers to "Left" and "Right", not to "Line".  If you have the speakers set to "Line", they will both pick up the left audio channel, which could be the cause of the problem.

If you need any further help with connecting your speakers, please feel free to ask!

Kind regards, Steve.

Thanks Vienna and Steve!  You have nailed the problem.  I just set the Beolab 3s to Left and Right and now have a perfect stereo image in front of me.  Thanks a lot!
