Recently purchased a Beogam 1602. To my surprise everything seems to work great. Even put the MMC10E under a scope and the found it to be in great shape.
However.... The tone arm seems stiff. As in - it takes some effort to push the tone arm across the face of the record. I am lifting it off the tone arm off the rest. When I pause the record it and try to move the tone are to a different position it still takes some force. Is this normal? if not should I just lube the tone arm bearings. Any suggestions. Will this damage the stylus or records. There is also a lot off Crackles and pops on virtually new records,
Please help!
Thanks,
Rob
Well this is embarassing. I realized I should try to move the Tonearm while the record is play. I did lift (carefully) off the record and indeed it moved quite freely. I think I'm fine.
Have a great day!
Sounds fine.

Good evening to you alls,
I've got the same issue on a Beogram 1202, but I thought it would not need a new thread by itself.
The tonearm is like if it was hold by a spring which pull it back when you release it.But it also play nicely to the end of the record without skipping. I was also able to move it freely as expected but can't remember if it was on special circumstances.
For example, if I want to bring it to its natural rest position (manually) I need to pull it past the border of the deck (say at 20 min, the pivot point being the center of the clock). Then "the spring" pull it to its normal resting position (30 min). From there if I want to drop it on the leading groove of a record, I need again to push it past the half of the record for "the spring" to leave it well. Hope this is clear.
The tonearm itself is a little bit damaged and I need to change it, but I think the problem comes from below and not the Tonearm itself.
Any hints?
Thank you.
