Everyone who has a Beosound 8 and still use the 30-pin dock connector PUT YOUR HANDS IN THE AIR!
Yeah, didn't think so...
Here is the steps you needed to remove it. Very simple. You can sand down the top and mount it back on.

"You think we can slap some oak on this thing?"
But then there is the second big question. How would you put in the newer lightning port? LOL
BeoLab 5, BeoVision 7-55 MK2, BeoSound 5 Encore, BeoSound 9000, BeoLab Penta III, BeoLab 8000, BeoLab 6000, BeoLab 2, BeoLab 7-6, BeoSound 8, BeoTime (analog clock), Beo 4 remote.
I like your wordless tutorial, Leo. As the old adage says, turning the screw is free, Knowing which screw to turn, that costs $100.
As to the lightning connector, probably I'm missing the humor. I use the Apple adapter: https://www.apple.com/shop/product/MD823AM/A/lightning-to-30-pin-adapter (It doesn't look any goofier sticking up there than the original round support bracket did, And at least it's white... If the heaviest device you use is an iPod, it's fine.) However, if you were to somehow extract the circuit from an original AirPort Express and stuff it inside behind that main panel, that would be a sweet upgrade!
Do you connect the Beosound 8 line in to the Chromecast?
Beosound 8, Beotime, Beocom 4, Beo 5, Lutron Rania, MacBook 15" (Mid 2015), iPad Pro, iPhone 6S, B&O Play H3, Beolit 12, Form 2, A8 Headphones, B&O Play A1, B&O Essence
This could be an interesting job for a Raspberry Pi. It should be possible, knowing the pinout of the cable going to the dock module, to make it respond to commands that are supposed to be sent to the iPod, and conversely feed back audio via Bluetooth or AirPlay.

Thank you for the tutorial. Regarding the pinout: Wouldn't it be possible to solder the audio-out of a raspberry/chromecast/airplay etc. device to the old connections of the dock, letting the Beosound 8 "think" that there's an iPod on the dock or is there a special signal required, too?
Due to my experience with the Beosound 8 I'll leave the ipod dock because it is the only way to reactivate a dead Beosound 8 after not using it for a long time: Put an old iPod/iPhone onto the dock and after it began charging, the Beosound 8 will reacto to Beo 4 commands etc. again.
