I've just purchased an absolutely beautiful Beocenter 2200 primarily for the form factor and the rather nice turntable.
Everything works, even the tape player which is a huge surprise. However, after playing a vinyl album a few times I notice that when I go to pick the disc off the platter I can feel the hair on my arms rise and actually hear the crackling of static electricity.
Clearly something is wrong because I wasn't expecting that much static to be produced and I'm a bit worried that it could flash the rest of the systems electronics.
Any pointers as to where I should start looking first?

Sounds like somebody cleaned off the platters antistatic coating.

Is this something that can easily be recoated? Alternatively can I use a slip mat and adjust the mechanism to take account of the added weight on the platter?

No. The coating is not easily restored.And no. A slip mat would cause a wrong needle tracking angle.And record presence and size detection won't work.
Live with it or replace the platter.Martin
Could something like this be worth trying first, if you are thinking of changing the platter! (use on the platter not the record of course )
