Hi All.

Im new so bare with, i brought 2 Beovision 5, one wall mounted and the other with a motorised stand from ebay.

As we all know they only run a 480p old plasma screen so the one with the motorised stand i have install a Smart 42" 4K LED screen and connect this to the amazing sound system on board.

The wall mount Beo5 i removed the screen and cut the unit down to create a sound bar with i have connected my iTunes music to via an ipad. i have also connected a pair of beautiful Beolad 8000 and a Beolab 2 Sub.

It sounds just amazing! im hoping to add to my collection real soon.

For sure a very striking appearance of that "Soundbar". Good job!

So how do you mix the stereo channels? What is going to the "soundbar"?

Any pictures of the one you where putting a new screen into?

The ipad is connected via a scart to Phono (then phono into a 3.5mm headphone jack) lead into the rear as you would of connect an old sky box maybe.

The Beovision 5 looks the same as before on the outside.

An RGB to HDMI out cable is used to access the old Beo menu's

O.  M.  G.  Kudos!  You are single-handedly going to start a price war on eBay for old Beovision 5's among the DIY crowd...

So do you use an alternate input source on your new TV's remote, and then switch back to watch whatever?  Or do you have a BeoRemote working the whole set?

Beo 4 remote works the power to the screen still and the volume. and of course the Stand and original menus.

You have to use the Smart remote to work all the tv functions. Big Smile

My wall mounted TV was £75 and the motorised base was £70 both off ebay.

Few on ebay now for £150...

Bravo! I love seeing old, “real” B&O gear adapted for the modern world rather than being scrapped. Great work!

I'm afraid I'm recovering from the BeoVirus. Sad

Deano,

If you're a little bit technical (as it seems you maybe) you might be able to use a Raspberry Pi hidden in the BV5 to control the screenwith the Beo4. The links  below might give you some ideas. I'd say if you made one that reacts to/learns one of the items on the PUC menu you could then use a PUC cable to the Raspberry Pi to translate those codes into the codes for the screen using a LIRC (Linux Infrared Remote Control) program and then control the screen with the Pi.

There is a board you can add to the Pi to do all this

Link to IR add on board

How a LIRC program works

EDIT - Having found the add on board, maybe the 1st article isn't so relevant as you will not need to buy the B&O compatible reciever it talks about if you choose a PUC item for the codes.

I brought a Beovision 5 (motorised stand) AND Beolab 8000's with chrome base for £300!!

The TV was £13,000 new in 2006 and Beolab 8000's £3.5K in 2011. So I got £16,500 B&O equipment for £300.

Anyways back to topic.....

I'm turning mine into a smart TV by connecting the Amazon fire stick so can watch youtube through the 8000's I brought a hdmi to scart converter for the Amaz stick but worried about impact on picture quality, what is the correct way to do this? Thanks!

Yep, that is the (only) way to do it.

Not sure about picture quality though.

Scart is analogue so there will be some degradation for sure.

I had a BV5 and used a HDMI to scart convertor for my Firestick and it worked really well. You won't notice any degradation to the picture compared to any other video source connected directly to the scart. Obviously the picture won't be HD because you are limited by the scart connection but the Firestick won't look any different because you use the convertor.

I loaded KODI on to my Firestick and it worked brilliantly and I could play my movies and music from my PC. The sound was amazing. The only problem I had was that the definition on the TV was not good for reading some of the smaller fonts in the Firestick menus. This is a shortcoming of the TV resolution and not the HDMI to scart convertor.

Due to a spat between YouTube and Amazon the YouTube app on FireTV/Firestick doesn't work,  you have to install a browser (I think one is in the menu but if not you can download one) and then just go to the YouTube website and it plays. The only difference is when you choose the YouTube app icon a window opens saying you can't view YouTube but do you want go to the site via your browser, you choose yes and it takes you there.

Enjoy your TV

Hi Deano1979 great work!

I'm thinking of doing something similar, did you just use the panel from a 4k tv? and use the beovision5's power supply to power the panel? or have you kept the 4k tv basically untouched and somehow fit it into the beovision5's frame?

I look forward to your response.

I upgraded the screen of my BV5 as well.... I included a step-by-step guide in this thread:

https://archivedforum2.beoworld.org/forums/p/41909/313996.aspx#313996

The BV5 speaker looks cool .... I don't think I would manage to cut the frame with such precision...

Well done !
