5500 CD sporadic ops

My BEOGRAM CD 5500 usually loads a CD quickly and then you see the number of tracks and then know that all is well. After awhile, that same CD will Los but not be discovered by the CD 5500 at all. The CD spins a bunch but then you can tell there is no communication—the number of tracks doesn’t pop up.

Sometimes when you get a successful ‘load’ the first track sounds all scratchy, yet the CD is pristine. Dirty laser pickup?

It’s very frustrating!
