my tv broke down for the second time and this time out of warranty. I had to drive the tv to the repair place. I was told that it needs a new video engine and maybe a new power supply. This would cost close to $6,000. Did anyone else experience this same problem? Is it worth fixing? I am very disappointed with my tv and the repair costs are crazy.

$6000 amazing price. Then I would change that TV to eclipse 55, its should be close to that price Now! Never spent $6000 out of warranty TV.
No picture and no sound
I have to agree with you. It is sad that B&O does not offer an extended warranty for situations like this
Sorry to hear about the Avant.
The same happened to me out of warranty, but then i remembered with my credit card I also get an extra years product insurance, so i made a claim (at the 11th hour so to speak) against my credit card for the repair of a new video engine which was ~$2500 AUD - this was earlier this year or late last year.
I'm glad i had it repaired. If i had to pay out of my own pocket, i might not have gone for another BeoVision. But considering my investment in BeoLab speakers, i probably would have gone for an eclipse.
If they quoted you $6000, it's either that part is not readily available or its the video engine and something else. But if you're getting no power or sound, is it the power supply?
$6000 is too much.
I would either wait for the upcoming rumoured Eclipse V2 (we will know soon if that's coming or not), or the current.
I suppose the question is, do you have any other BeoLabs that would warrant you having another BeoVision? If not, maybe change for something else , but audition the sound against the eclipse.

I could check my credit card. The items that are broken must be imported from Denmark and the labour is not cheap either considering the tv is being repaired at the technician’s house because the dealership in Toronto has closed so the tech is working from his home
Well $6000 CAD is just like $6000 AUD in that case - seems really high.
I can understand your disappointment.
Check your cc: fingers crossed
If you do decide to move on from the Avant, i think you would be happy with the eclipse. I haven't heard of owners on here having any issues with them.
Here is the really sad part.
To me this sound like a trivial PSU issue. The kind of thing you could fix in a hour 10 years back.
B&O has unfortunately effectively killed the option for independent repair by not releasing documentation and by forcing repair centers to simply swap entire system boards. Most likely the failing boards are then fixed and refurbished and used for the next "swap and fix" operation (I have seen refurbished boards in BL5 many times). It has to be a VERY lucrative service scheme, but I am not sure I like the ethics.
Incidentally, this might be the single biggest reason why I properly would never buy a new Beovision!
Mikipidia:Have you considered asking another party for pricing or getting a second hand one? Second hand ones are probably close to that price, here they would be cheaper than that second hand.
Agree,- Try a shop dealing with Samsung, since the Avant basically is a Samsung derivative. A PSU is definitely easily fixable!
Spoke to Willie about it on the podcast, he's in yyc and thinks the price is a rip off if the diagnosis is accurate. So maybe send him an email at beowillie@gmail.com he used to be a shopmanager/partner/tech and all that so he knows what's what. He's just not very close, but he's in the same country
I had the same problem. Violet screen picture and sound. Problem: Change video engine. Price 1.000 Euro´s Out off garanti - no support from B&o - just pay.
After repair wonderfull TV.
Sh*t happens ;-(
I’d pay - it is a nice BV.
MM
There is a tv - and there is a BV
