Hi guys,
I have a Beocord 1200 that's been in the family since 1988. It was fine until around 20 years ago when the tape speed would not switch between 9.5 and 19. The slower speed works and plays fine. I cannot play the faster 19 speed at all. I then put it away....but now I have recently dug it out to have a look at it again, with a view to getting it working properly. I have lubricated and cleaned the switches but it still will not play the faster speed 19 or 7 1/2 ips. Everything else is perfect. The 3 3/4 ips speed playback is perfect and all sliders no longer crackle when moved. Its quiet too - just don't know how to get the speed selector to work as it should. Any help or advice will be gratefully appreciated! Thanks.

Most likely the mechanics actuating the switches that have seized in dry lubricants.Take apart, clean and re-lubricate.
