I was donated a BM1900 with good sound except for a fairly loud hum in both speakers.

Before even thinking of beginning the almost inevitable recapping I wonder if I could get rid of the hum when I replace the smoothing C in power supply: it measures way over 2600uF instead of the 2200uF.

Does the bridge rectifier also plays a role in this problem?

Bridge rectifier, yes.
Filter capacitor, yes.
Other capacitors like f.e. C66 etc., yes.

Recapping is unavoidable if you want a good result, and the rectifier is a known problem, also mentioned in a B&O tech note.
