hello everyone,
i bought a pair of used beolab 5 this weekend for 5400€. Very fair price. They were installed in a millionaire´s home along with the whole b&o catalogue. They hadnt been moved from the first installation and every single receipt was still there. I extensively tested them with multiple songs that i listen to on a daily basis and listened to every single of the 8 drivers carefully. No issues. Absolute new condition, no marks or scratches, no sun damage on the covers. The owner passed away... House was almost empty.
Now one of the speakers is buzzing on the tweeter and the midrange doesnt make a sound. I run them on S/PDIF and tested multiple sources. It is the speaker. I will test it with powerlink and a BS 9000 or 2300 tomorrow, but i have very very little hope that that is the issue... the other speaker works fine.
What issues could there be, that the midrange stops playing? Is it common, that the amps stop working?
I would be very grateful for help. It seems unfair to blame this on the seller. They obviously took damage from the transport. They were in a transport VAN on thick rubber mats to absorb vibration...
I am very handy and repair B&O stuff commercially, yet primarily the glass door beosounds. No experience with the Beolab 5. I had a pair already but sold them, when a customer asked me and offered a very good price. So i´d not be afraid to open them and check the PCBs etc.
greets....
