I have a unique problem. Starting this year, every time I use my Beosound 9000 the CD's being played start to "skip" for a 1/2 second or 1 second, and this problem always starts exactly 24 minutes or so after I start playing the CD. It doesn't matter what CD I play or in which of the 6 positions the CD is played in.  It always start skipping after 24 minutes of perfect play. Then, it will skip another 4-6 times over the next 30 minutes and then stop skipping.  My Beosound is 11 years old (MKII). I took it to the authorized repair center and they suggested I replace the Laser reader, but I ask myself, what kind of problem can this be if everything is fine for the first 24 minutes and then without fail, this problem occurs.  And here's the final twist, when at the Repair Center, we tested the machine and this problem did not occur at all. It only occurs when the machine is mounted in my house.  The repair center representative also couldn't figure this out.

Questions:

1. What kind of problem could cause this?

2. Would buying a new laser reader solve this? Why does my old laser reader still read perfectly most of the time and why without any issue when this unit was in the service center?

Thank you for your thoughts!

Steve

Hi Steve, after 11 years it probably needs (deserves) a new laser and service so it can give you another 11 years!

If the problem did not occur in the service center perhaps its worth looking at your lead or electricity power point/ socket. Wire the 9000 from another point in the house and see what happens. Lets know how you get on.

I am not 100% familiar with the Beosound 9000 and its innards but generally this symptom sounds
like something is restricting the fine movements of the laser block.
A little dried lubricants on rails, a ribbon cable rubbing on something or similar.

I recall hearing from the service dept that the 9000 had issues with the laser pickup, I think it's been redesigned at least once. Whether that's true for the Mk II or only the Mk I I don't know. I did have the laser assembly replaced on mine when it was in for service for another issue a few years ago, mine's a Mk I. The tech asked if I'd had any tracking issues. I hadn't as yet, but I had him replace it anyway as the unit was fairly old and taking it on and off the wall is a pain, so I figured a bit of preventative maintenance wouldn't hurt.

I'm afraid I'm recovering from the BeoVirus. Sad
