For a couple of days, when pressing start or stop the transport made a loud squeaking noise. Then today it got to the end of the record, lifted, and moved 99% of the way back home and then wouldn't shut off. Is this just a lubrication fix I can do myself or do I need to send it in someplace. (FWIW, I am in NYC if anyone has a reputable repair shop.)
I would check the clearance of the plastic optical markings part as it moves across the front of the black holder for the photo darlington. When that starts hitting it you will get squeaking and it may bind at the end preventing the off switch engaging. There are two mounting screw that hold this and keep it aligned.
