I just bought a Beogram record 3500 on Ebay and it looks beautiful and all but, and this is a pretty big but, I cant get no sound from it. Apart from a small whisper when I crank up the volume, it's quiet. I'm guessing it's the cord because the receiver doesn't react when I turn on the turntable (as it should?) like when I turn on the CD, then the receiver flips to CD automatically.

So my question is if it's the cord that needs replacing?

What is it connected to?

You need to connect to a compatible Beomaster with the DIN cable and the DIN connector must have all 7 pins. The bottom pins unscrew to accept an RCA adapter so if they are not there it won’t work automatically with the receiver.
