Hi dear members.

I would like to know if there is anybody who has repainted the red coating behind the display glasses of the Beomaster 6000, 8000 and Beocord 6XXX 8XXX series.

I've got one scratched and tried already with

red car backlight spray > horrible halo around the display segments

red tinted car window foil > better but green LED is filtered to something brownish colour

Has someone a good idea how to get the right colour?

Thanks for suggestions

Kind regards

Christian

Hello

I've got an Beomaster 8000 with a broken red coating behind the displayglas, now I'm thinking what kind of coating I could use for repair.

If anybody has repainted or used a foil plese let me know what kind of paint or foil you used

Please help!

I think I bought an earlier version of this paint https://www.hobbyshop.de/epages/64593168.mobile/de_DE/?ObjectPath=/Shops/64593168/Products/4806_1

Must be color “karmin”, as far as I remember

Hi Bashirian

I'll try my very best to discribe my technical problems, the soloutions, and experience I made.

Other have other soloutions sometimes and a lot of technical issues are discussed in this beautiful forum.

Only the finishing of the brushed aluminium surfaces and some other optical issues are underrated here.

If someone has a good soloution for the brushed aluminium surfaces let us know, there are a lot of B&O gear with scratches  and marks and for me it is desireable to get the cosmetics and the electronics as good as possible for me.

Hi ProGram

Thank you for your advice, seems that Deka is an old brand, which I used about 30 years ago  with Dekalit for taking only colourpigments from magazines and transfreing them to different surfaces.

As the owner of the Beomaster 8000 told me he tried to clean the the coating behind the metalmask with warm water and from one second to the other the complete coating loosened from the glas like a foil.

So please be very very carefully if you try to clean the coating, never use windowcleaner or other solving products, maybe just a moitured tissue will work.

The coating is very scratch sensitive.

In case of the Beomaster 8000 you will not get into the corners behind the metalmask so there it will show stains under the glass.

I've already ordered Deka colour Karmin and black maybe I've to mix bot colours because the coaing is not just red or dark red.

Friend of mine has a airbrush and I will try to spray the colour on the glas with some testing before.

Next problem to solve is to take apart the metall mask and glass without disturbing the black paint.

I will take some pictures and inform of my progress.

Will take some time maybe 14 days....

To be continued

Kind regards

Christian

I used sheets of red plastic rather than paint.

Hi

Do you provide any pictures or reference adress where I can get these plastic sheets?

Are these kind of filter foils which are used in stagelights?

As I wrote I tried with red car window foil but the result was'nt very good, the LED displays had a visible halo.

Thanks for reply

Kind regards

Christian

Hi dear members

The story continues

So, what we´ve got so far:

First I managed to rip of the glas from the metalframe after heating it up to about 75' C with following result, the black coating kept one half to the doublesided tape.

After that I sandblasted the metal frame looking like this:

I repainted the glas with some matte black coating but the new black was blacker than the original so one could see the transitions between the old and new black coating so I decided to scratch off the old coating with a metal ruler and a second for guiding around the "windows" and textmarkings as you can see on the next picture:

I painted again with black coat so the transitions where only visible by a close look as you can see around the text "FILTERS" and so on

The edges around the windows had to rapainted with a small paintbrush

After that I came to the coating on the windows with a airbrush gun. Problem is that a airbrush gun is not designed to coat larger areals so the first attempt was slightly cloudy because too less thinner.

Btw.: the paint is a mixture of DEKA GLASMALFARBE TRANSPARENT from 4 pices BLACK and one pice KARMIN and 5 pieces regular thinner, but you have to test the mixture by yourself for the best results depending of nozzle diameter and pressure of the airbrush.

In between I coated the metalframe:

Now to the customers display glas:

I managed to seperate the glas and metalframe with KONTAKT WL and a razorblade which had a much better result because most of the black coat stayed on the glas, only small dents which where easily to repaint without much visibility.

To get the red tinted coating of I took a ceran cookfield claener like this:

A closer look and you could see that B&O had to repaint some small scratches:

After cleaning I took the airbrush again this time I mixured a little bit more KARMIN into the BLACK. For me the result was very good:

First looks on the Beomaster where very promising,

Last work would be the gluing of tthe glas and metalframe with double sided tape.

I´waiting for a 3M 0,6 mm tape, my regular tape is 1,1 mm and a little too high.

I´ll send some pictures next week when the tape has arrived.

Kind regards and a nice 2nd advent, stay healthy

Christian

Very well done! Until now I used the pure paint KARMIN for repair the display of some Beocenters and MCPs, which are only letters and digits but not those wide areas with even coating.

What about the red (and green) foils which are fitted in the old 3-D glasses

Hi all

The colored foils are a good idea but in case of the Beomaster 8000 you won't be able to get them underneath the metalframe.

At least I mounted the restored display Glas o. a BM 8000 and I'm quite satisfied with the result.

As you might know taking a picture from the display is not easy but "I did my best"

BTW. : the red lampshade of the "FILTERS" is not mounted.
