I have been told by a source close to B&O that Beosound 1 was going to be discontinued in the not so distant future. He was not sure about whether the Beosound 2 would also follow, and what the reasons behind the Beosound 1 being discontinued were. My guess is a combination of high price for its performance or compared to its nearest competitors the Level and Beosound 2, combined with perhaps customer demands vs. prioritization of their supply chain under the current global strain. I am slightly concerned about the Beosound 2 coming to the same fate, since I am just looking at getting one as my next speaker in my Beolink+Mozart multiroom setup. He wasn’t sure if a newer version was being planned. I have the impression that the Beosound 2 (and probably also 1) have been much loved among B&O customers. But maybe interest has fallen in light of the Mozart products. If I look at the availability of the Beosound 2 on bang-olufsen.com, with the exception of the Bronze version all the colour options without Google Assistant are sold out. As for Beosound 1, I cannot recall any new colour option since the Sapphire edition that was limited to 10 pieces.

Does anyone have more information?

I’m sad to hear that but not surprised about BS1. Its price and performance relative to Level make it a tough sell unless you prioritize its looks over the Level’s. What a great piece, though. I really liked mine—until I heard an M5 and liked it a bit less for its lack of low-end. :) Still, a beautiful design and a great piece.

Currently: BeoLab 17, BeoLab 18, BeoSound Core, Beosound Level, Beosound A1 2nd Gen, BeoPlay S8 Connection Hub, Halo, Essence Remote

Previously: BeoSound 1 non-GVA

I was a little surprised when I heard it. I will definitely hold on tight to my Anthracite Beosound 1. I think I’d still choose it over the Level, since I also prefer the sound of it to that of the Level. I am also intrigued about what new products are to be launched in the Mozart series, and understand if B&O needs to prioritize their numbers. But I am going to miss the Beosound 1 in the range. I hope the Beosound 2 will stay longer. It is better priced in my opinion than the 1.

I guess currently the Level is more popular than the Beosound 1 as a portable speaker. For the Beosound 2 the situation is a little different, in principle its newer alternative is the Balance, but most people prefer the Beosound 2 over the Balance in terms of design. From what I heard the Beosound 2 is still selling very well so I guess they will keep it alive for a while and maybe even update it at some point. For me the Beosound 2 is one of my all time favourite B&O designs and I also really love how it sounds.

I think they have run out of new colour ideas?

I really doubt that! They could at least ask me for more ;).

I have both a Level and BS1. I prefer the Level. It sounds (slightly) better and, as you say, very portable. I can just move it outside, on to the terrace or even if I'm working in another room.

But, the sound from the BeoSound 2 is a step up again.
