I was just gifted with a cosmetically flawless BeoCenter 9000 with belt isues. Opening this BeoCenter I noticed a box, for lack of a better description wrapped in copper wine in the back right-hand corner that was covered in rust. What is this and is the rust an issue?
I would also like to know what members think of this series, the BeoCenter.... and the 9000 in particular.

That box sounds like the mains transformer. Leave well alone, it is not a problem.
The Beocenter 9000 was the first in a line of Beocenters with similar but updated appearance from 1986 to 2000
They are all excellent.
A good 9000 still seems to make ~£250 on eBay.

Thanks Graham. OnceI get new belts, this 9000 should perform like new.
Hi
I am looking to get a beocenter 9000, I have been looking for a little while, and have seen some for sale that have various faults.
What I would like to know is.........How easy is it to get replacement parts?
I'm also assuming once I have the spares that I will be capable of fixing the 9000 myself?
Most electronic spares are available from electronic componentcompanies suuch as RS components and the like.
Trim parts are now unobtainable from B&O but you may get some from enthusiasts.
The CD clamper spring anf the widget that holds it on are now unobtanable anywhere and your BC9000 will become a large cassette radio!!
You are unlikely to be able to do electronic repairs unless youare suitably qualified.
Many parts are available through B&O. I found my belt set there with no touble.
As to doing the work yourself, the short answer is NOT unless you have the patience of Job.
I have worked on my Beogram 4000, 4002, 4004, and 8000 and they are difficult to work on. Ditto my Beocord 8004.... but when it gets really technical I have needed to send my B&O products to Martin, who is amazing.
If you DO attempt to work on a 9000 one little tip, the adhesive strips used to hold the glass panels in place will have dried out by now the the glass will literally fall out. I caught both of mine by dumb luck, so tape your down before opening the unit.
