I've recently acquired a Beomaster 5000 system which has not been used for a long time, also I should quickly mention that I'm a newbie to all things B&O!

The Beocord 5000 cassette player has seized up, apparently it was hardly ever used, the drawer struggles to open, etc but it probably just needs a bit of TLC. I'd like to get it all working A1 again, the rest of the system functions well, at least to my ears..

I treated myself to some new headphones, but when I plugged them into the jack, the speakers don't mute, so I've got both speakers & headphones together.  I don't want to disconnect the speakers, so I'm hoping there's a simple solution to this?

Because of the age & previous history of the system (lack of use), I just worry in case there's something else which requires attention?  I've tried the manual controls on the front of the amp/tuner plus the MCP - which works perfectly by the way - but it makes no difference, I can't mute the speakers.

Thanks for reading this, I hope its easily rectified with the right input.

The simplest reason for this would be that the speakers are plugged into the Speaker 2 sockets. These are not muted either by the headphones or by the mute button.
