Hello all!

I'm trying to get my father's old Beogram 3404 hooked up to my stereo system, and was hoping y'all could help. The complicating factor is that in my setup, the turntable is ~8 ft away from the pre-amp, which is too far away for the factory Beogram cable (out --> DIN --> 2RCA with ground cable) to reach. So, I'm looking for a way to extend it. If I went with a female 2RCA to male 2RCA cable to extend it, I wouldn't be able to pin the ground cable to the post on the pre-amp. I was considering looking into getting a different DIN to 2RCA hookup, but I don't really know enough about this sort of thing to know how to deal with the ground. If I got a modern DIN to RCA, would there not be the ground in the RCA? I guess I'm confused because I figured RCA's were always grounded, so seeing the DIN to RCA with a separate ground threw me off.

Anyways, sorry if my lack of expertise shows through here, but I appreciate anything you have to suggest.

8 foot is too long for a record player lead. The signal strength is too low and you will get problems with interference etc. This was one reason B&O made the last of their decks with the pre-amp built in.  8 foot is still quite a distance! I suggest if you have a separate pre-amp that you move this to where the gram is.

On the subject of grounding, you need an earth wire from the casing of the DIN plug to the earth post on the pre-amp.

Peter,

Thanks for the prompt reply. I do have a separate pre-amp, so I suppose I'll do just as you suggest. I appreciate the help!
