Circumstances at home mean I find it almost impossible to connect the A8 directly into router by Ethernet cable. I tried connecting via Ethernet to my time capsule which is connected by Ethernet to my router and it still doesn't work. Is there really no other way?
Hi.. I've updated the Beolit 12 & Beoplay 8 attached to a Time Capsule through the iOS App, worked fine. The Web Server in the B&O's is awful, it's much more straightforward with the App. As long as the B&O has a route (gateway) to the Internet it should work. Do you have any additional security on the Router.. what 'failure' or error messages do you see.
Without a doubt, Internet updating for these devices is the worst technology experience i've been through in the last 5 years..

Thanks and I agree! I have now tried plugging it directly into the router via ethernet and still no luck. I just keep getting message that it has to be connected to router by ethernet cable. But it is!!!!!!!! No error messages, I just get caught up in this infernal loop.... has to be connected to router via ethernet......click on update software......has to be etc. Have tried via my Mac and my iPad. Same result
The only thing that occurred to me is that if I keep getting this message, there is no software update available. Could you tell me what the latest update is called?
Thanks
Sorry, I am adding this because I forgot to tick the box indicating I want to be notified of any replies!
B&O tech support at their most useful: (did the sarcasm shine through?) http://bogo.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/6696/related/1/session/L2F2LzEvc2lkL3pFQWQyT2ls
i've been able to find (what i think is the latest version for the '12 (-1.012 from memory, but found nothing for the '8)
Check your ISP/Security software isn't blocking port 443 & 123 (HTTPS & Network Time). And perhaps call your local B&O store. SoHo in New York have been so far nothing short of superb.. as they should be for a $1200 ipod dock. I'm a couple of weeks out from recieving a comparatively complex TV (Beovision 11 55") -that will need several hours of configuration, so i'm a little nervous based on experience with this 'young & value' line Beoplay stuff.
Bottom line is, once this stuff is running, it tends to stay running, i dont know what SW updates might be required in future.. and perhaps B&O supporting a copy of the image to a USB stick & booting off that might be simpler...
Good luck..
