Hello,

today I was told by my dealer that Beoplay A8 will be discontinued in a few months. He got this information directly from B&O a few days ago.

I responded that he would mean Beosound 8, which had already been discontinued last year. But no, Beoplay A8 would be discontinued, because quantities of sales are to low.

For me this is really unbelievable, because Beoplay A8 is the only Beoplay product which is really good in my opinion.

Are the guys in Denmark going mad??

Regards

They probably figure the A9 is the natural heir (which I don't think it necessarily is).

I wonder if the glut of Beosound A8's on sites like EBay have affected retail sales. Shame if it's true as my Apple IPad, mini IPad, IPhone and touch all look awesome on my A8 :-/

Seems a silly rumour to me.

Beosound Stage, Beovision 8-40, Beolit 20, Beosound Explore.

Hope not, as the Beoplay A8 looks really good now without the dock!

Too long to list....

This can't be true - we've all been told by B&O (HQ, dealers, their press releases) that it's one of their best-performing products. Why would you then discontinue your best-performing product?

I really like my A8 (well, Beosound 8). It's one of the better B&O products I've purchased in the last couple of years and, so far, completely trouble-free!

The *only* thing I can think of is that the removal of the dock has put a lot of users off buying the product as it simply looks odd without an iPad connected. When I connect my iPhone to my BS8, it looks like an odd design. Much better with the iPad on top. As dealers promote it without any iPad/iPhone, maybe the design hasn't gone down as well as the previous Beosound 8?

Sad times if true.

I haven't heard anything that would signalize the EOL of the Beoplay A8.

Greetings Millemissen

There is a tv - and there is a BV

I'm not aware of how the BeoPlay range is priced in Europe; here in Australia and with respect to the V1, there is simply nothing available in the market place as a TV that also has a fully active speaker array that can double as a centre channel speaker in an AV role, an inbuilt state of the art surround sound processor, and the B&O natural colour/picture rendition, - at the price being asked for it here - let alone cheaper.

So in the nature of form following function I cannot in all honesty agree with your comments about the Beoplay products being underperforming, overpriced tat.

Design of course is very personal and subjective; I happen to love my V1-40's looks, as do many others - albeit I love the look of the BV11 or a 7-40 more, - but compared to a mainstream Samsung or Sony for example, I much prefer the V1's looks and metal finish myself, speaking personally of course.

So just a different perspective to yours perhaps... Smile

John.. Cool

I'm really not surprised at this.

I was interested in buying one, but the B&O store representative talked me out of it. " I don't think it will work for you. "   Never even saw it in person: There was no store level support for it at all.

Not sure how you could claim that, since the BeoLit, BeoSound 8 and A9 have all won prestigious design awards. I also don't know how anyone could say they are underperforming - they sound incredible for the size that they are.

I totally get that visually they may not be to everyone's taste - but if they were just another rectangular box with a dock on the top we would probably be going on about 'what happened to B&O's design heritage etc etc...'

I would say price vs performance is good - but ultimately the market will decide if the price is right or not - and they do seem to be selling well!

The BeoPlay A8 is a GORGEOUS product that sits FAR atop the category its in. ISomeone on here said the drive units are "very close to BL4000s" or some such thing, and if that's truly the case then if it weren't for my stupid inner-child's need to want retro-'90s B&O I probably SHOULD have spent that money on the BeoPlay A8 because the BL4000s are incredible. I have a pair of Monster Clarity HD Model One speakers that are modern china-crap construction and while they do sound fantastic, they retail for the same price I got my BL4ks for and are pretty far behind the BL4ks in sound quality. More of a BeoLab 2500 sound signature. And yet THAT is considered a high end iPod era product.

Of course, they're apparently discontinuing the BL4000 too...

I hope they don't discontinue the BPA8, it's a great little product.

I can understand if the End Of Life the BeoSound 8 because it was a transition product to BeoPlay, even if it's 50% off that's a good buy and you could team with with a Play Maker and hey presto and charging capabilities for the older ipods etc , and let's face it even with a new lighting connection, most people would still have an older ipod/pad/thing to use with it.

I would LOVE to see if anyone has mounted (don't like to say hung) their A8/BS8 on the wall and how successful it was.

BeoSound 8 is stopped not the BeoPlay A8. Maybe the dealer made a mistake between names of the Classic range and the BeoPlay line.

Of course correct.  And I see the Beosound 8 on Amazon for $699, which is 30% off, not 50%.  Seems to be some inaccurate information being passed along here.
