I bid on a set including a second Beolink 1000, Beolink 7000 (just cause it was there, I was really after the BM7000) and a BM7000 on Ebay recently and was a little disappointed that this BL7000, unlike my first one was really in bad mechanical shape. The LCD didn't light up and the rechargeable battery is basically dead.

To try and make up for this the seller is offering to send me a pair of RL6000s from a set of four he had, a Beocord 7000 cassette deck and yet ANOTHER Beolink 1000. I originally paid 440.00 shipped for the BM7000, BL7000 and BM1000 so I'm actually considering this, as I believe he will even let me keep the broken BL7000 to do with what I please. I had originally asked him for 250.00 back and to send the broken BL7000 back to him, so before I press him on that option, I'm wondering about the top plates on the two components.

My only question is this. I find the Beocord 7000 essentially worthless even though it works fine, but the Beomaster 7000 has some scratches in the metal plate at the top. It would be nice if I could swap the top cases or panels from the Beocord to the Beomaster somehow and then sell the Beocord to someone else. Is this at all possible? I tried to look at the schematics for both and all they were was electrical diagrams, no actual disassembly instructions, so I can't tell how different the top panels are. They look remarkably similar though.

I feel like for someone with an Apple-centric music collection, a Beomaster 7000 and an Apple TV are a much more attractive arrangement than the convenient though rather bland PlayMaker, so I'd like to get the BM7000 looking as nice as possible.

No.  The rear grill on the receiver is hinged and lifts so you can get at the connections.  The grill on the Beocord doesn't flip up.

Hmm that's a bummer. I wonder if it would still swap over and I just wouldn't have the luxury of raising and lowering the convenient lid anymore. I think I can still snake my hand in there without that convenience.

I think it's probably worth taking the seller's offer anyway.

A part of the cover on the receiver is the cut-out section in back where the cables go.  This doesn't exist on the cassette deck.  I looked at the auction you were the winner of.  The seller doesn't seem too familiar with what he was selling.  I'd ask him to make sure the cassette deck works - not just the cassette part, but also the motorized drawer.

No you're right. It belonged to a close friend of his that passed away. Before I received everything I actually asked him if the two way communication worked on the remote which is typically what fails. And he was correct in stating that it did. Of course he likely had no idea the middle display is supposed to light up. So if I really wanted to restore this BL7000 I could, but I'll probably just save it for parts for my other one.

I'm going to ask him about the cassette playing and the motorized tray on the BC7000 before I Decide to take it. The more valuable parts of what he's offering me are the RL6000s and the other BL1000 I could use anyway. I'm having a lot of trouble finding any useful reviews on the RL6000s though. Finding good reviews on old passive Beovox speakers is kind of tough in general. I have a set of BL4000s and BL2500s right now so that's what I'd be comparing against.
