Hi everyone,
I'm a newbie here and also to the world of vintage B & 0 in general!
I have just purchased a lovely looking Beomaster 900 RG De Luxe, in good condition and everything seems great, other than when I'm trying to play a record in stereo, in which case I am only getting sound coming from the right hand speaker.
If I play a record, with the Beomaster set to mono, then I get sound from both speakers. Also, if I play the radio, the sound comes from both speakers.
I have played around with the balance control underneath the unit and made sure it is centred, but this hasn't helped.
I'm a complete novice with this so any help would be much appreciated. Obviously, both speakers are working as I can get sound out of them playing a record in mono, or listening to the radio, and yes, they are stereo records I'm trying to play.
I have the original manuals etc too, and the cartridge "looks" to be the correct/ same one as shown in the manual. I'm guessing that you need a stereo cartridge to play records in stereo?? or have I just made that up?
Anyway, any help of where to start looking, or what it is most likely to be and how to fix it would be greatly appreciated.
I've included an image of it below;
Many thanks,
Most lilkely a problem with the record player cable and/or the socket at the bottom of the Beomaster.The solder joints inside the DIN plug are often found broken, resulting in intermittent or completely missing channels.I would check that first.
Very nice piece !

Hi Martin,
Thanks very much for your reply... I will investigate this first then. If I can't see anything visually wrong with it, would you suggest that replacing the cable would be a logical next step?
This does however lead me onto another question, which is, do you know how/the best way to access underneath the record player i.e. lift it out of the cabinet? I can get limited access to it from underneath the unit, but it would be good to be able to lift it out to check all of the cables and connections.
Thanks again for your response, it is much appreciated.
The cable, if defect, will just need a repair, I'm sure.I am not sure how the innards are accessed. I saw one opened a long time ago but I never servicedone of these radiograms myself.Doesn't the service manual reveal something ?
EDIT:From the servicemanual for the Beomaster 1200RG (which is a very similar set);Taking out the Beogram merely involves removing four screws on the top plate, then you can lift it out.The radio chassis, I think, will require the whole thing to be laid on its backside and with two screwslosened at the back (underside) of the radio chassis, swing them out of the way and the radiochassis will come out (inwards).
Nice RG and great choice of album! Meat is Murder is one of my favourites :)
