Hi again!
I have a beautiful AVANT 32" DVD RF which i picked up yesterday and it works beautifully, has hardly been used! However it was very dirty, so i'm wondering if dust inside is a problem here.
When playing a DVD it will work great for a chapter or 2 then it just stops and gets confused saying DISK ERROR on screen. It also doesn't listen to CD's for more than a few tracks before getting confused and displaying load dvd and opening its lid.
What should i do here? Would it be worth getting it looked at by B&O, or can i easily fix it myself? I'm quite handy and i'e had no problem taking other beovisions apart in the past, so any advice is welcome!
is anybody familiar with this issue?
Thank you!!
Try giving the laser a clean with a cotton bud/Q-tip and some isopropyl....

Hey Jonathan, thank you, I tried that a few times and no change in its behavior :(
I'm afraid I recognise that behaviour only too well as that's exactly what my Avant started doing a year or so ago. Basically the DVD mechanism has died - they are still available but B&O will relieve you of around £400 for a new one.
The option my wife and I took was to buy a second-life Beovision 7 and stick the Avant in the study until a spare DVD mechanism appeared. Ironically that happened only a week or two ago and I bought a complete tested mechanism from a chap on ebay for £50 - fitting it is this weekend's job. Sadly , although the seller had four I think I had the last one - sorry!
And, yes, I know buying a new £400 mechanism from B&O would have been cheaper than buying a Beovision 7 but hey...
I don't think it's wise to invest £400 in an Avant... Once that tube goes bust it's dead.
Too long to list....
My DVD in the Avant has also just stopped working
Still a great picture though and to be honest, the DVD player interface was always rubbish!

Does it have HDMI, and could therefore support an external DVD player?
As a left field option, there is always the Red Spot design award recognised V1, which, along with the BV11, features the latest digital chassis, and accordingly, the latest and state of the art picture and audio/video engine, which would undoubtedly bring out even more of the quality of your Beolab 9's and now Beolab 2 sub Dave.

HDMI was probably on a piece of paper somewhere in a lab when the RF Avant was last sold.
