Recently I upgraded from Beo4 to Beo6. I configured the Beo6 myself as my dealer provided me the tool. He has done the initial configuration. After this I played aorund with the config tool, It took me about one week to find my favourite configuration.
Comparing the two configurations - the one my dealer made and mine - i have to say the configuration of my dealer was very basic. It didn't make use of the power of the beo6. If i olny knew only this one, I would tend to lay the beo6 is far away from an useful remote. Far too complex, no sense....
In my opinion B&O should provide the tool officially to clients.
What do you think?

I would like to purchase a beo5 at some point I like the look of them
Very nice object... but no very comfortable remote...
If you can do all that you want with the BEO4 don't change!!!
If you need macros and/or like the screen, logos, ... buy..
The software should be given to customers, absolutely. Just another way to "milk" B&O customers for money.
Too long to list....
Exactly the same advice here : the customer is the only one wanting to have a specially tailor-made config, the dealer only sells simple programmation at high cost.
A simple exemple of my config : when I press TV, I have the TV turning on, and all channels logos are displayed on the screen of the Beo6. I have to go to the third page to get special buttons. In a "dealer-made" configuration, if you press TV, you always have a stupid menu displayed on the Beo5/6, with a "Channels..." button that you have to press before reaching the channels logos...

I agree that you need to have to tool to make good use of the beo5/6 possibilities.
But I do not think that the average B&O costumer should get this tool; this would probably cause more problems then lead to happy costumers.

Not THIS unergonomic tool, but a tool designed for the customer : more user friendly, maybe with 2 levels of interfaces : one for simple use (where you can add products in zones, and make simple modifications), and one for advanced programming (macros, third party, full editing)
I have the same opinion, if you want to fine tune the configuration, you need to have the tool.I configured it for my setup and for my home automation system. Works perfect, but this is to time consuming for a dealer ...I propose B&O should organise a "certification" training for those who wants to program the BEO5/6. You get the certificate (and the tool) after a (small) test. This way you avoid non-technical people to play with the config tool... No problem if they even ask a small amount of money for this training.... I was talking to someone who was interested in this remote only for his home automation projects and not al all for B&O products. Now they have no access to this remote. It could open an new market for this remote ...

Interesting remote but until it is properly two way, I would not use one. I have had a couple of these (Beo5s) and have got rid of both of them. I have had the software and it is reasonably easy to use - I had one of the first and could even use the first software and am no computer expert!

I've come to like the Beo6 a little better since it started interacting with the BeoSound 5, but as iOS apps get slicker and their capabilities increase, the Beo 6 increasingly feels obsolete. I'm not at all convinced that an iOS app should be the sole means of control, though. A few hard keys for volume and navigation are ideal when watching TV or listening to music, but the reality is that touch screens are the only way to make large complex systems operable and the bar has been set extremely high for design, responsiveness, and intuitive operation. Clicking on a little pixely word has a rudimentary feel that's out of step with what B&O should be offering. I look forward to what's to come, but until then the Beo4 remains a phenomenal remote.
Hi,
I started with a beo5 and after the glass screen 'detatched' (only me using it !!! and im pathologically obsessionally careful with my stuff) , and 300 Euro of a bill later, It was upgraded to the Beo6.
I hate this frustrating remote :(:(:( - constant time delays between hitting the screen and the command actually happening....(e.g....i lower sound.....nothing happpens, 10 seconds later the sound lowers :(......
My software IS up-to-date, cos the upgrade was only a few months ago,.
I agree about the software issue - ever time SKY change their channel designations, and they do it constantly, at least here in Ireland they do, some of your favourite channel icons become useless. If you bring it to dealer to sort it, it needs to be left in, sent to a programmer, and you may get it back a week or two later. Personally i've given up trying to keep it updated with correct channel icons, so i just access channels tru the Sky channel listings.(which kinda defeats the purpose of the Beo5/6!!!)..... A bit of pain after forking out the best part of a grand on a remote, between original cost and upgrade to beo6.
I should say that its not the dealers fault, as he is limited by the design of the beo5/6 and outsourcing the programming.
I have 5 Beo4's that i use in varoius rooms, and overall the Beo4 a much more user-friendly, functiionaly satisfactory device. Its also nice to hold and well balanced, unlike the Beo5/6, which can be awkward.
One of the great frustrationsI have with B&O in general is that when little things go wrong, its so hard to get them sorted. I dread the day my Beov7-40 or lab 5's stop working!!!! I might be back to using a freeking sony TV and Rotel speakers lol. Thank god for this forum!!!!
would i recommend thre Beo5/6? Clearly for me, the answer is a definitive NO. I'd put the money towards a Beosound8 or an ipad and content myself with the realiability of the Beo4.
In this case, not all the glitters and shines is gold!!

I have a Beo5 and control a number of third parities with it. LG TV, Lutron Rania dual dimmer light switch, PS3 using the Schwartz.
It's a nice piece of kit and looks stunning however it is a real pain to programme. I am still getting the hang of the software which has turned into a hobby!
Beosound 8, Beotime, Beocom 4, Beo 5, Lutron Rania, MacBook 15" (Mid 2015), iPad Pro, iPhone 6S, B&O Play H3, Beolit 12, Form 2, A8 Headphones, B&O Play A1, B&O Essence
I fully agree that B&O needs to make the Beo5/6 config program available to the customer. Even more important than that, though, is that B&O needs to make it possible for the user to update the PUC of the BeoSystem 3 or BeoVision. It seems daft to have a technician travel to the customer's home or have the customer ship the product back to the dealer every time a new device, such as a different brand of blu-ray player, is added. An ethernet connection to achieve this would be nice. Another simple solution would be to have a usb service connection on the BeoSystem or Beovision that would use a flash drive to update the PUC.
I fully agree with the last two posts. Programming the Beo5/6 should be spontaneously made possible to the owners of the remote, although the Config Tool needs some practice as it is not always user-friendly.
It makes much sense to be able to update the PUC list via a usb flash or even better via a net connection. It's already possible to update the dvb and dvd/brd drives of BV TVs. So why is BO waiting to go a step further?
I bought Beo6 mainly for two way communication with Beosound 5. Although two way works, it is quite slow and it seems to consume prodigious amounts of battery power. Beo 6 therefore has to sit with priority at the power dock...Also, the two way functionality needs to get far better to make Beo6 a real winner (add N.Radio, customer programming etc).
Apart from missing two way function, Beo 4 is way superior to Beo6 in its simplicity, interface speed, intuitive handling and battery power use.

I'm complete the other way around. I like the *idea* of the Beo6, but can't stand the design. To me, it looks like something designed circa 1997.
You see I love all the classic designs(overture) where my mate loves the newer stuff like the beosound 2, But there is something about the beo5 i like . One day when I am feeling flush I might treat myself! Until then the beo4 will have to do.
I agree 100% as I too have the simple useless dealer configuration. The remote now just sits on the side doing nothing, I may as well sell it but keep thinking that one day I will have another go at programming it. I have the configuration tool but it seems complicated, anyone know of an instruction manual or video or would that be too much to ask.
Hi SteelRain,
Take a look at : http://archivedforum2.beoworld.org/wikis/beo5-6/beo5-6-configuration-guide.aspx
It may help to get started. Don't hestitate to give me any feedback to the guide.
