Hello, I have a Beomaster 8000 with a malfunctioning tuner. I bought it knowing the tuner is faulty but was wondering if anyone here could help me diagnose it so I can determine if its worth getting fixed.
In auto you hear nothing, in manual just noise regardless if an antenna is hooked or not. With the dial rotating around 91.5 and 91.7 it will spontaneously start picking up a random station regardless if the station is on 91.5/91.7 or not. LAst night, I was able to get 100.3, 107.5 and 104.1 all on 91.7 by turning it on and off and playing with the dial. Its very annoying to say the least but all other functions are fine. Any suggestions? I picked it up for a song with a mint Beocord 9000, Beomaster 5500 and two Beocord 5500s along with the MCP 5500 for $300 locally.
Welcome to Beoworld !
Beomaster 8000 is a quite complex beast but many problems are caused by simple things. In your case I would first check and reseat all cables and connectors. Cracked solder jointswhere connectors are soldered into boards will also need a good check, particularlywhere the processor/display boards interconnect.

I will take a look at it this weekend. Any suggestions for opening it up? I downloaded the service manual but the pics are pretty poor. Other than this tuning issue, its a near perfect (knock on wood) unit with all other functions working well.
The service manual describes it quite well actually and a decent scan is available for download from our main website forsilver and gold members. Well worth the small membership fee.
