Dear members,

has anyone polished a Beogram 4000 lid with good results? I know, this has been discussed before, but it's still unclear to me whether this can be satisfactorily done or not and if so how.

Any comments are much appreciated.

Greetings,

Kai

Hi,

Yes it CAN be done! My Beogram 4000 lid was restored to as-new condition four years ago.

And how did you do that? I have one that has only surface scratches but pretty many of those...

Hi,

Well it takes loads of patience and it is a truly painstaking job!

Basically, I used metal, then acrylic polishers. The brands wouldn't help because they are only available in France. Brasso is the closest British product I could find, and the other product was designed for polishing car head and back lights.

I also polished my Beocord 5000 the same way.

I had some old cars and know how painstaking a procedure like that can be. But there's obviously more surface on a car than a Beogram lid ;-)

So if I understood you correctly, then you didn't go from rougher to finer grain of polishing, did you? Is it correct that one product in principle could do the job with enough patience? And you probably did it by hand, did you?

Thanks very much. I will try that in the near future. There's not much to lose anyway.

Greetings,

Kai

That's right. All by hand.

I did not use any abrasive paper, just liquids. I've just finished my old Quicksilver PowerMac G4 sides!

Good luck!

And pictures are welcome!
