Being in the U.S., we are pretty unfamiliar with the B&O video link feature. In fact, most dealers seem to also be quite unfamiliar with it. I have a BeoSystem 3 (U.S. version) as video master in the living room and a BeoVision 10-40 in a bedroom as a link room. As I understand it, the version of BeoSystem 3 that I have supports video link. What do I need to create a video link to the BeoVision 10? Do I just need a standard RF cable connecting the two? Do I need an RF link amplifier, and if so, what is the correct placement of it? Reading the BeoVision 10 manual, I see that it says that one needs a non-B&O tuner to be connected to the BeoVision 10 for video link. Is that because the BV10 lacks an analog tuner? Is the tuner connected to the scart input?
I know that the video link only supports standard, analog definition. My main interest in the video link is to add visual control on the link room TV of the BeoMaster 5/BeoSystem 5 that is in the master room. What is the control and navigation of the BeoMaster 5 content like on the link room TV? I know that on the TV connected to the BeoMaster 5 via the BeoSystem 3 navigation is very limited. Is the music navigation of the BeoMaster 5 on the link room TV improved? And if so, how so?
If your BS3 supports video link it must have an RF modulator, usually included with the system module. You will find an antenna plug, and there should be an option "link frequency" in BS3 menu.
Connect rf out of your BS3 to RF link amplifier input - yes you will need one - and RF link amplifier out to BV10 antenna in. Set your BV10 to V.OPT 6.
You can use the standard tuner.... But if your BV10 has NO tuner you will need one, of course. Sorry I`m not very familiar with Beo`s U.S. products.
If you add a tuner it will need a scart input, I think, because it must be SD.
I have the link amplifier installed in the attic, just in the middle between main TV and link TV. Works great.
Navigation and picture will be the same as on the main TV - very limited...:(
Sorry, but I don`t think, that it makes sense to build a video link installation just for your BS5.
I have a similiar setup with BV7/BS3, BV10 (link TV) and video link with RF link amplifier, but I don`t use it for my BS5.
Beo6 and Beolink app will give you a much better navigation, or, if you want to go the video route add an HDMI matrix...:)
Hope this helps.
Stefan
Thanks, Stefan, for your help from "across the pond." As I said, in the U.S. we are quite unfamiliar with video link. I just thought it might be nice to have if it gave more control over the BeoSound 5 from a link room. How much should I expect to pay for a link amplifier? To use the Beolink app, I would need to invest in a MasterLink Gateway, which seems quite costly just for that sole purpose. Nevertheless, I have considered the MLGW to add this extra control. I just thought the video link might be an inexpensive solution.
Rauber,
As I already have all of my rooms connected via MasterLink, it sounds like a pretty simple task of running a coaxial cable along the MasterLink cabling. One final question: Do I need an RF Link amplifier manufactured by B&O or is this a rather generic item that I can find anywhere? I've seen RF Link amplifiers advertised on Amazon as well as at my local electronics supply stores that are quite inexpensive.
BeoNut since '75
Any RF Link amplifier should work. Beo`s amplifier has four outputs for linkrooms and a return path. You don`t really need that.
If antenna cabling and RF link amplifier are no problem, I`d try a test installation.
But ensure that your BS3 got a system modulator. I did some recherche, and I couldn`t find a single BS3 US version with RF modulator.
There must be an antenna socket (male, I think) next to Masterlink socket entitled "LINK TV".
If you find it, you can proceed with step 2..:)
If your BVs are already masterlinked, ensure, that BS3 is set to V.OPT 1 (or2) and BV10 to V.OPT 5 (or 6).
Set the whole system to standby and press LINK - TV in your BV10 room. BS3 should start up in TV mode, BV10 should start up in Link TV mode (?).
If so, video link should work..:) Now - step 3...:)) install the RF cable from BS3 LINK TV out to analogue tuner Antenna input of your BV10 (this socket should be configured to source "TV").
Default Link frequency is 599 Mhz, if I remember correctly, you don`t have to change it, just check in the menu.
Now press LINK TV again, or any other video source that is in your mainroom, but not in your link room.
You should get a (bad?) picture. If so, add an RF link amplifier. If picture quality improved, you are done - congratulations.
If I missed something, please correct me....
stefan:and a return path. You don`t really need that.
This is what I meant by |perhaps over-engineered".
What is the purpose of the "return path" ?
