Hi there,
I just got given these speakers and as you can see in the photos; the woofers have suffered the normal foam rot. The paper cones are also a little creased and torn, and one of the dust covers has been pushed in. Do you think they're salvageable or should I replace the whole drivers?
If it's a replacement then any recommendations for close matches to the originals?
Welcome to Beoworld !
I agree, they look a bit sad, probably beyond repairs.I may be able to find a good used original pair in the dungeons if everything else fails.I'm afraid, you will find no suitable modern replacements, the T/S specs are practically impossible to match.

The Mod Podge tweak/modification may save the paper cones.
I wouldn't worry about the dust cap. If you shim the voice coil during refoaming - and you should - you're going to cut the dust cap out anyway.
Hey Martin, Thanks for the welcome! Yes I may be interested in the original ones of you have any in the speaker dungeon... i saw this instructables tutorial where someone installs new drivers, but not sure how good it sounds; http://www.instructables.com/id/Bang-and-Olufsen-Beovox-Woofer-Replacement-easy/
Hey Rich,
I just looked up Mod Podge - never heard of it before but it sounds like its magic!
I might have a go at this as I guess I've got nothing to lose.
Thanks!
Ed
I put three coats of Mod Podge on my S40 woofers (my first refoam) about 2 years after I refoamed them. To my ears, the modification did not affect the sound for worse or better. The S40 was before, and still is, a fine sounding loudspeaker. By the way, the S40 woofer is an 8" paper cone.
Use the Mod Podge tweak at your own risk, of course, and your mileage may vary (as they say). But like you say, you've got nothing to lose.
Martin is a great source for parts, if it comes to that.
Before tackling it yourself, you can seek out a professional to try to repair as well. Where are you located in the world?
I'm in Brighton, UK - do you know of any professionals in the neighbourhood who can fix speaker cones?
Sorry, no. Only across the pond. Martin may be your best bet.
