As my Beomaster 8000 will come back fully operational tonight and as this servicing costed much more that what I expect ;) (I will do a post to explain what happend but in one word, there were a lot of misfunctions and my technician did a great job to save it (but spend many hours..)).

The good news is that we saved one more BM8000 ;)

Now, alone, the BM 8000 is a good tuner but It also need to play my records ;)

I bought a beosystem 8000 (with the nice cabinet) and I think, only this piece of furniture was working well (no problem with the light for the moment ;))

The beogram has a lot of troubles :

- broken MMC20CL (main problem but can be retyped)

- lid can't stay up alone (big problem with the cabinet where the BG is in a very small place)

- datalink seems not working (is it normal that this BG8000 has RCA+datalink output)

- lack of confidence on what the last owner did (as he did a lot of wrong things on the BM)

So, after saying that, I am quite sure that this BG8000 will never work without problems (can the lid (and this horrible hinge) be repaired ? ...)... And that the service will cost a lot...

My idea was to replace it but... I saw another BG6006 last week and it also have a lot of problems (but different, more mechanical,...)....

I think, for the moment, it will be too expensive for me to find a well working BG8000.

I read a lot of very interesting thread about BG in this forum and here are my options according to what can I find not too far from me (I never see any BG6002 for example):

1. BG 4002 : easy to find and easier to service than the BG8000/6006/8002 (really easier ? for example, I can find a cheap BG4002 but the tone arm doesn't go down, does it seems to be a major issue ? )

2. BG 6000 : without the radial track, this turntable will be even more easier to service (I can find some for less than 100€ and hope spend less than 150€ to be fully operational).

3. BG 1700 : same advantage than the 6000 (easy to service) cheap, but no datalink... and it could be usefull with this cabinet.

For these 3, I can have a fully operational turntable for less than 300€ (much more 500€ for the 4002) and one day, retype my MMC 20CL.

4. BG 5000 : I can find one in very good condition for 300€ same advantages than the 6000 (but no MMC 20XXX cartrige).

What do you think about these choices ? do you think I should wait and buy this fully revised BG8000 that a repair shop sell in Paris ? or do you think that with this kind of machine, I will always fear a major failure (even if it has been serviced).

Thank you in advance for your always wise advices. I know that it will not be a perfect match but sometimes, even with passion, we have to be rational...

Beogram 8000 has a female 7-pin DIN socket at the rear towards the left side.
This should be used with a matching 7-pin datalink cable to the similar socket in the Beomaster connector bay.
Check if the previous owner just plugged in an adapter cable ?

The hinge: Can you spot any broken or missing parts ? If not, it may just be a matter of tightening the hex screw for
the lid leaf spring.
Check the mechanism before tightening !

Thank you Martin,

There are 2 oupout on this BG... the female din 7 pin and another cable with 2 RCA.... I think the 7pin plug doesn't work because the last owner plug the BG with RCA... (what a shame, a BG 8000 on BM 8000 with RCA...).

For the lid, we spend two hours trying to fix it with my girlfriend and thanks to this forum, we did our best not to break the plastic part on the back of the turntable... It improved a little bit but it is not thight enough to support the lid... I did'nt see an hex screw (maybe missing ?).

I will do pictures (maybe tomorrow, because today is the big day, I will hear my revised BM 8000 all night long) ;)

If it is repairable, that will obviously be the best option !

Hi,

a 7 pins DIN plug + a RCA cable on a BG8000...I never saw that... does it really exists?

If it's a homemade intervention, maybe the last owner has just desoldered both output plus ground from the din connectors to create the rca cables (from the interior). In that case, the DIN connector became useless. If I were you, I would try to put back all these cables were they first belonged.. I successfully did that yesterday on my BG4002. I posted something on the subject on the workbench forum.

If it's the case you would have to open your BG and get a soldering iron. But be careful on the pinout!! Follow the schematic for the output. If I remember correctly the pin order is not standard on the 8000... I think one of the ground is placed on one of the extra pins...

I refurbished a Beogram 8002 at the beginning of this year. I actually used a couple of parts from a Beogram 8000. There are similar parts but they are different electronics. The lid and hinge are very similar. This picture on my Beoworld posting shows the 8000 and 8002 lid hinges side by side - http://archivedforum2.beoworld.org/forums/t/4135.aspx?PageIndex=10

Fixing the lid can be tricky.  Like Dillen said, there is a set screw that adjusts the tension of the leaf spring.  However, the spring and the plastic piece it slides into have to be in good order to slide properly. My post has a picture of that as well. With a little patience and being careful, the lid should be able to be adjusted.  Providing no parts are missing or broken.

The assembly of the BG 8002 hinge and adjusting of the tension is shown on the next page of the BG8002 repair thread - http://archivedforum2.beoworld.org/forums/t/4135.aspx?PageIndex=11
