Hello everyone, I am new to this forum so I hope I am not asking anything that is daft or has been asked before! I have a decent Onkyo 7.1 surround sound amp running a pair of passive Penta speakers. The mid range on Pentas leaves a bit to be desired! I want to add a pair of rear speakers (must be B and O vintage) that had a bright sound to compensate for the slightly muddy mids on the Pentas. Soemone has suggested CX100's - do you agree? Any suggestions greatly appreciated. Also would a pair of CX50's work as a centre speaker or should I go with something new? Many Thnaks to all who respond - it is greatly appreciated. Alex Big Smile

Have you checked the surrounds on the mid drivers in the pentas? They will be rotten unless they have been replaced. It could just be that you need to refoam them and they will then sound a lot better.

We have a pair of cx 100s as rears. They sound just fine, rears are for effects and atmosphere (planes, cars, music...), and they look good in white, too.

Best regards

Ralf

Thanks for the reply! I have replaced the surrounds recently and it has made a difference. I am not complaining, they sound great but the are still slightly muffled around the mid range.

With which surrounds did you refoam them? Using the wrong ones, the mids does not sound as they are to tensed and aren't able to vibrate as they should. Also by replacing the caps on the filters will improve the sound. And even more when you use the better versions.
