I have a two part question regarding my beosound encore 5.

1. Is it possible to setup the encore to have a set of speaker in one room and another in my terrace, with the option of selecting which set I want to use. My first thought was a set of passive outdoor speakers for the terrace using a beolink passive setup. However cant figure out how I would make the speakers connections for the main room using this.

2. I have a beogram 4500 and wish to put this into the system also but cannot figure out how?

If anyone has any information I would be very grateful.

Thanks.

Hi applemac1,

1: the short answer is no!

But you could connect two sets of BeoLabs (or preamp&passive speakers), and turn on and off the mains on the set you want to listen to (or the mainswitch of the preamp).

Tip! Use a ML/MCL converter/BeoLink Pasive as amp - it has a PowerLink connection, which makes it easier to connect it  to the Encore. Depending on which BeoLab's you have connected in the main room, you might need a PowerLink splitter cable too.

Not very comfortable - and certainly not very B&O'ish. And you can't remote control the Encore from out there.

The Encore was made as a standalone system!

2: that is very easy.
The Ecore has a line--in connection, and the BG4500 already comes with an in-build preamp.
Just buy an adapter (5 pin DIN female to minijack), chooce AUX on the Encore and enjoy your vinyls.

Hi Millemissen,

Thanks for your fast response, its a shame B and O made this as a stand alone unit because it would work so well as an integrated unit.

One last question I do have also a beosound 9000 therefore would this help in my request, meaning could I link the beosound encore to the beosound say via the aux input of the beosound 9000 and then from the masterlink of the 9000 to a beolink passive for the terrace.

Thank

The 'integrated version' of the Encore is the BeoSound5 (with the BM5) 🆗

Surely you can do it that way.

Look for an adapter cable (PL to phono R/L) at Steve at Sounds Heavenly

You will either have to put the Encore into ' Option 0' and control it manually,

or into 'Option 4' and use the 'Link' command before any operation of it

This was interesting news which could make it possible to get the Encore working sufficiently in a master link setup with a Beo5, I am thinking about the following scenario:

1. Connect the Encore to an audio master, e.g. a Beosound 3000.

2. Connect the Beosound 3000 to a copule of Beolink active kits through master link

3. Activate the Encore through the AUX command

Here comes the tricky part, is it possible to send LINK commands through the Beolink Active kits? If not, it could be possible to use IR extenders although it's hard to find extenders that send/receieve 455 khz. This is also only needed if you would like to control the Encore from other rooms.

4. Customize the Beo5 to always send LINK commands when the Encore is activated. (e.g. the On button would be a macro activating both the Beosound AUX and the Encore)

So there we have it, an Encore fully working in a Master link setup and through the Beo5 it would be minimal inconvinience providing the above is true.

Then again, why not just use an Ipad with Spotify, a Playmaker and skip the Encore completely...

(the Beosound 5 is truly a piece of art, but how much I try to convince myself into buying one I am unable to)

In this case the Encore is JUST an external device connected to the AudioMaster.

There is no way of controlling it from a LinkRoom.

Some people does the same with the 'line-in' of the Playmaker.

If you already have the Encore it might be ok.

If you don't, you are better off buying an iPad and the Playmaker, which then can be connected to the AudioMaster/AUX (if you have one).

This way you can control your music/Spotify/podcasts/netradio from every LinkRoom.

Well, if you have an IR extender in each room that links the command from the Beo5 (which you have customized with macros to send LINK commands) then you would be able to control the Encore from every room.

The issue with this solution is that there are a limited number of IR extenders capable of handling 455 kHz - the ones I found costs a fortune.

In my current setup I have an Apple TV 1st Gen and Airport Expresses that I am using to send spotify etc. wirelessly through my link system and to non-connected B&O products such as the Century in my kitchen from Iphones, Ipads & Macbooks. It is connected to the AUX input on my Beosound 2300 usinga n AUX splitter.

The macbook is configured to always stream music to all sources so it is a very convinients setup - I just need to activate the speakers I want to listen to and press play on the Macbook. When using the Ipads / Iphones I need to switch the output on the device.

So when I am considering the Encore, it is just for it's coolness factor - the usability compared to what I currently have is not as good and another argument has been the lack of master link. However, using the AUX input combined with a couple of remote extenders and a customized Beo5 it would be possible. Then again, the total cost for that kit would be similar to just going for the BS/BM5.

Yesterday I was also considering just buying an Apple Universal dock, apply a little DIY and use it as an Ipad dock. This way, it would be able to control it with the Beo5.

That is exactly my point!

Either that or the 'iPad/Playmaker/AudioMaster-AUX' solution I mentioned above.

But applemacs already HAS the Encore - that is why I wanted to give some tips how he might use it best.

Yes, I have understood that he already has the Encore and I thought your advice was interesting. I am not criticizing you at all.

Basically, I am trying to convince myself into buying an Encore even though I know that it is not a sound investment...
