slave amp for passive speakers

I've recently acquired a pair of CX100 bookshelf speakers, along with a beocenter 9000 and a beogram, however the center is broken and I'll be selling it for spares or repair as it is far beyond my ability to fix. I hope to get the speakers working. I'd like to be able to play LPs from the beogram onto them and also be able to plug my ipod/laptop into them. I've been told that since they are passive speakers I need a slave amp. I'm entirely ignorant when it comes to technology and if anyone helps could they please explain as if to a child. I'm wondering what amp I need, and I only have a price range of about £40 preferably less. I only really want the speakers for listening to music in my room so don't need them to be massively powerful. Any advice on how to set this up and could you suggest an amp to me that could be used as a slave?

Maybe some Tripath amp? I'm very pleased with one in computer use.

But if you are connecting more that one source, you need preamplifier with inputselector, and whats more, if you are connecting Beogram in it, it will need RIAA amp in it

it depends on what model Beogram you have, if you are lucky you may have one with RIAA built in and that opens up your possibilities to any modern amp out there

Or something like Beolab 1700?

I have a Beogram 9000. I've talked to some guys in stores and I'm told I need a 20W amp upwards and would need one with a built in phonograph for the beogram to work with it. I could get a separate one but want to keep it as cheap as possible. From what I've seen through only the really expensive £100+ amps seem to have one built in. It would be greatly appreciated if anyone was able to link me a stereo amp in the £40 range that would be able to do everything I'm looking for as I'm struggling to find one myself and I'm worried about getting the wrong type. 

I'm also worried about the connections, the CX100 speakers I have have a "ball and blade" connection I believe it's called and was wondering if this would be able to plug into a new amp or if I'd need a converter??

Well, I would buy second hand older amplifier, otherwise you have a lot fo small boxes witch is not nice (imo).

Connectors are not problem, I'm sure, for example Maplin have them (DIN speaker connetor). You will also need DIN female to phono male adapter between Boegram and RIAA preamp, if you end up one like Maplins.

So, form Beogram > RIAA preamp > amp (Tripath?) > speakers.

the Beogram 9000 turntable does not have built in RIAA, but it did come as standard with the amazing MMC2 cartridge which I hope you have, and if you do - pray the tip is in good condition

my brother has a Beogram 9000 connected up to a Yamaha DSP-A2070 amp, which he bought about 5 years ago for £200, it sounds fantastic with his massive Beovox RL7000 speakers hanging off the ceiling

he has two MMC2 cartridges in good working order (with any of the B&O carts you can use any amp that has support for MM phono connections, which his 1995 Yammie amp has as standard) , he only uses this amp in stereo 2 channel mode, does not use any of the DSP functions or other speaker connections !

you can get nice condition mid nineties Yamaha amps like the A2070 and A3090 for less than £100 with a remote and manual, it is probably overkill for your CX100 speakers but you will not regret having one of these amazingly over engineered and sweet sounding Yammie amps IMHO
