I am moving house and my current lab 5 (which are stereo only speakers in the living room)  will be moved to a dedicated home theater room.

The new room will have a 110 inch screen and projector. It would be fairly large (8 x 5 M) The screen will be microperforated so I can hide any center speaker behind the screen.

This brings me to my question. Which is the best center speaker to match the Lab5's.

The 7-4 with acoustic lens?

The triangular 10 (not a beauty in my opinion but it would be hidden)?

Of even a single Lab 9 hidden in a niche?

I ask the question because I have a Beovision 12 set up with Lab 12 speakers and frankly it doesn't sound very good. The built in center speaker in the Beovision 12 is not powerful enough and very disappointing (though in its defense it is in a VERY large open plan living room with 3.8M ceilings).

OR should I just sell the Lab5's and get a set of built in speakers (B&W, or Genelec) that are all hidden behind the screens.

Any experience with this type of 'problem' would be appreciated.

Best

Philip

Hi Philipp,

You own a pair of beolab 5, I do understand why you find every other b&o speakers not very good.

Like Millemissen, you should try another bl5.

I have a bl 7.2 and bl7.4 and I don't think they will be better than a bl5.

If you need a bl7.4, I have one for sale.

Best regards

OLivier

Sorry should have been more clear. Disregarding the cost, I don't think I can create a cavity behind the screen large enough for another Lab 5, especially as they need space behind them.

A 7-1, 7-6, lab 12, lab 3 no problem. maybe a lab 9.

I don't know the size of your cavity, but one of the virtues of the BL5 calibration is that adjusts for almost anything, so you might do very well, from an audio standpoint, with a third BL5.  Just so you know, it is what I use, and I think it works extremely well.  Second choice would be a BL9.  Third choice would be any Acoustic Lens product, just to match dispersion.  Finally, I suspect that if you went over to any "normal" hidden system using conventional speakers, you will probably be really disappointed by the outcome.

Good luck with it in any case.

Best regards,
